About That Witchy DM

I love playing Dungeons & Dragons and I’m always up for trying new games. I enjoy being creative with my characters and NPCs, and nothing beats the feeling of telling a story that truly immerses people. My goal is for players to get so drawn in that they lose themselves in another world for a few hours. I’ve been DMing for almost four years...probably more by the time you read this. I started with weekend one shots and eventually began running near daily games on a West Marches server. Over time, I’ve developed a full homebrew world that I’d love for others to experience. What I thrive on is making sure that each person has a unique experience in a game. I love when my players have ah ha moments, or moments where their jaws hit the ground...being able to hear and see the joy the experience while in a game is rewarding. I always try to bring something fresh to my games; new mechanics, creative twists, and narrative depth, to keep every session exciting and engaging for my players.

I became a GM because

I really wanted to tell an amazing story. I love being creative and I love bringing my imagination to life. This was the perfect outlet for me. Being able to do that with my Demonvein homebrew has made me love this game more than I could ever imagine.

My favorite shows/movies are

Love, love, love Lord of the Rings. Outsiders both movie and book. Supernatural is one of my favorite go-to shows. I enjoy watching some older movies as well...very nostalgic. Young Guns I and II for instance...Dr. Who, cause how could they not be on this list.

When I'm not running games I'm...

either getting maps done, setting up for games, or have a bit of free time for myself with which I will sit and spend time with family or veg with a goo video game.

How That Witchy DM runs games

I love a balanced mix of roleplay and combat; each offers a different kind of storytelling energy. Roleplay lets me explore character depth, motivations, and emotional moments, while combat brings tension, strategy, and those unforgettable “did that really just happen?” moments. I really enjoy thinking outside the box and adapting on the fly. Some of my favorite sessions are the ones where my players completely surprise me and push me to think creatively as a DM. Those unexpected twists, quick decisions, and clever player ideas are what make running games so exciting for me and makes me never want to stop being a DM.

I deal with rules issues by...

focusing on the situation. Sometimes RAW needs to come into play...and sometimes you need to bend those rules to create something epic for your players. Cheating is not tolerated though, and the rules are against you if you are caught.

I once ran a session...

where a group of players had gotten so chaotic that they wound up burning down the library and being outlawed by the town...and hunted....as they caused a lot of damage...property and otherwise. Then one got arrested and they planned a jail break....All of this was in a one shot!

Rules are...

good to have, but also good to bend. If there is an epic moment that my players can have, but a rule gets in their way then I will make the decision to ignore it, or bend it, so they are able to have their moment.

That Witchy DM's ideal table

I like to keep a relaxed, welcoming vibe at my table. We’re here to have fun, not to be overly serious or take things personally. What happens in the game stays in the game; nothing is ever meant to be personal. At the end of the day, we’re all here to tell a story together and enjoy the adventure.

I think metagaming...

is annoying really. If your character is low level or if you have never encountered something in the game...then do not act as if your character has just because you as the player know what it is.
