About me

About Me Hey y’all, I’m Morgan (he/him)! I’ve loved storytelling since I was a kid, and over the years that’s led me to a B.F.A. in Acting from Ohio University and a fascination with TTRPGS. Now I run games both online and through Rough Magic here in Chicago IL, exploring new systems alongside the classics.

GM Style

I don’t build my games to tell you a story - I build them to help you tell yours. While I take pride in vibrant worlds, fun NPCs, and challenging combat, the guiding light for where our game goes next will be the characters you've made and the narrative themes we've decided our table wants to explore together. Knowing that gives me what I need to keep my GMing flexible, so there’s always room for a little silliness and wild choices alongside our badass moments and big emotions. We’ll use tried-and-true consent and safety tools so everyone at our table can not only help each other have fun but also feel comfortable speaking up if you aren't having fun. Please note that I have a zero-tolerance policy on racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, and abuse.

Morgan is the best dm I’ve had the pleasure of playing with! He is creative with mechanical solutions to anything the players throw at him, enjoys going along with his players whims, and celebrates their big choices and wins with them. His acting and how he lays out the scene is so good that you’ll lose yourself in the moment. He is inclusive, thoughtful, and communicative throughout his games, in order to make sure that everyone feels welcome. Playing at Morgan’s table feels safe, like you’re able to be yourself and make big choices no matter how big or bad the outcomes might turn out to be. In all my years of playing, I’ve enjoyed playing in games run by Morgan the most.

I have had the pleasure of being at Morgans table multiple times as well as getting the chance to run for him. A dedicated storyteller, his games bring players into a world in a way that feels fully colored in but without the pressure to know everything and gives the chance to explore. His ability to bridge the gap to new TTRPGs for first time players is masterful, and his enthusiasm in sharing his passion for the games and the settings is unmatched. Morgan is a staunch proponent of not only implementing inclusive spaces with narrative and mechanics needs, but is a GM who implements safety tools which are meant to be used and encourages players to engage fully in spaces that safe and communicative. I jump at any chance I get for a seat at Morgans table, and look forward to doing to on StartPlaying!

If you are looking for a safe, talented story teller with an incredible command of the table and a deeply-rooted desire for every single game he runs to be one his players talk about for weeks and weeks afterwards, this is your GM. He is proof that creating a welcoming environment for all players to be creative and truly play doesn't come at the cost of a phenomenal game. Every story in every setting I have ever had the privilege of sitting at the table for with him as a DM, he has surprised me with something magical and I would honestly recommend him to anyone because of the compassion and care he shows every single time he is behind that screen. I cannot say enough good things about this man. He is one of those rare, dream GMs that genuinely guides tables towards collaborative story telling. All I can say is, sign up for one of his games. See it for yourself.

When Morgan runs a game, he is prepared an tells a great story. But the thing that sets him apart is he really lets you tell your story. I know it sounds cliche but he builds off the players. Your choices really impact the world you are in. Whether that's a big moral choice or a silly character choice; it all feels tailor made. The adventure exists for the characters rather than the characters being the tool to explore the adventure.
