About Jim
Hi! My name is Jim and I am 38 years old. I have been a GM for 5e since launch and been loving it ever since. I have always enjoyed high fantasy, creative writing, and board games. So naturally, D&D was inevitable. I also dabbled alittle in 3.5e. Im a nice mellow guy who loves having fun above all else. Im not a rules lawyer and believes the "rule of cool" reigns supreme. This is a collaborative story craft with epic heroes! In the famous quote, "You may certainly try!", its my job to create a scenario within the game mechanics to allow you to try anything! Within reason. If its too far fetched or beaks the rules, I'll have to call No. I have been a fan of H.P. Lovecraft my entire life and enjoy the dark, gritty cosmic horror genre. I'm also a sucker for High Fantasy. Mixing the two is my favorite style of homebrew.

I became a GM because
I enjoy board games and creative writing as a hobby. D&D allows me to do both hobbies I enjoy.
How Jim runs games
When it comes to GM style, I try to be an equal opportunist according to what the group wants to experience. I love tactical combat, using the environment around you to get the advantage. Roleplaying scenes can lead to fantastic opportunities and diving deeper into the adventure lore. Dungeon crawling is always more fun with puzzles that change the direction of progress, so the players decide which path to take. Character building as a group is one of my favorite parts. When two characters roleplay with each other, divulging their personal goals or motivation. This may lead to interesting encounters in the future. I try to incorporate each characters backstory into the game somehow, be it a chance encounter or a side quest that pops up. This helps make the game more customized to the group.

I deal with rules issues by...
Rule of Cool usually, to keep the game flowing. I will look up the official ruling on it after the game and let the group know.
Jim's ideal table
My table is always relaxed, with laughs and nerdy chuckles. I prefer to think of my table as a group that gathers for collaborative story-telling. The GM gives the framework and foundation, and the characters write the story. I do ask that we keep it civil and respectful. If one player is ruining the vibe, the GM will speak with them about it.

I love it when a player
thinks outside the box and utilizes their characters proficiencies in interesting ways!
I think min/maxing...
is for those who want to "Win" D&D. There is no winning D&D, this is collaborative story-telling. I much prefer character building according to roleplaying, flaws make characters unique.
My table is not the place for...
criticism and disrespect. We are all here to have fun, and we do that with "Yes, and..." We play off each others strengths.
