About me
π€ Howdy Adventurer! π€ My personality: Open- π€ Industrious- πͺ Extrovert- π₯³ Agreeable- π Unworried- π I've been running D&D since 2014. I initially enjoyed the game as a player, but very quickly thought that I could do better than my DM at the time π . I started watching Critical Role and Matt Colville as they were begining and developed my unique style π. Using collaboration and improv to tell memorable stories keeps me coming back to the table π. My favorite D&D moments come from players creating unique and clever solutions to their character's problems π. I knew D&D would be a lifelong hobby when I found my wife through it. My profile pic is from our wedding! We met through a Navy buddy of mine who played D&D with her. I feel incredibly grateful to the hobby as a whole, and I would love the opportunity to run a session for you!
GM Style
Role Playing? β Exploration? β Combat? β Fun?π― My games tend to have an even spread between combat π€Ί, role playing π, and exploration π§, but I a more than happy to personalize those to your desires. I enjoy complex themes like, political intrigue π§, moral dilemmas βοΈ, and high stakesπ. I mostly stick to the rules π, but smart ideas or a willingness to roll the dice can convince me to bend them π€«. New/shy players can feel free to sit back and enjoy the ride π. Alternatively, if you feel confident or experienced we can try a more sandbox approachπ. I enjoy running games in all kinds of settings, but my homebrew setting draws from some of my favorite inspirations: Dune β±οΈβ‘οΈπ§ Zelda πΊ Deltora Quest πππ Pendragon πͺβ‘οΈ βοΈ Once Upon a Time in the West πΆπ

Rivas is a legendary level DM. I've never had a DM who seemed more prepared than him, and even when myself or another player threw a wrench in the cog that was his plans he always bounced right back in a way that was both fun and engaging. Understands the rules very well and balances rules vs having fun equally as well. Very helpful in character creation and often provides insight that might be useful without spoiling anything.
After 15 years hiatus from DnD, my brother recommend a friend of his for this experience. I was a little worried as not having played or having the experience that I would get lost or cause the group trouble/slow down. Rivas put those things at ease since it felt like he recognized those issues for new players. We spent in depth time going over our sheet to make sure I understood things and if I did have questions, he promptly responded in a timely manner (over discord). I highly recommend Rivas for new players and experienced ones as he has a unique way of mashing new players with the current adventuring group.
I played with Rivas before he joined StartPlaying. He is far and away one of the best and most experienced game masters I've ever played with. We played a campaign that last about 14 months and went all the way to 20th level. He put in a lot of effort to make it fun, engaging, and challenging without being too challenging (or too obnoxious). He is extremely knowledgeable about the rules for 5e and playing using Roll 20. He is flexible with the rules when necessary and tries to make sure everyone is enjoying themselves. You cannot go wrong choosing him as your DM.
Played through/finished tomb of annihilation with this GM in 5e, as well as a custom setting. Fantastic all around and constantly fun. On top of that, created his own unique setting with its own history, politics and classes/weapons. As a GM myself, I have a lot of respect for GM's who setup as much as Rivas has. Was also quick to eradicate any tedious systems like encumbrance.
