About Jeremy Madaus

I have been telling stories through the Table-Top RPG medium since 2005. If I have learned anything in that time, it's that the best stories come from players when a DM opens the world up to them and lets their ideas drive the experience. Most of my experience is with Dungeons & Dragons and Star Wars. I have run a few stories with Cyberpunk 2020 and Cyberpunk RED that I really enjoyed, as well as with a handful of other systems. My sessions tend to have a focus on story and roleplay, however, more than anything I try to pick up on what my players want from their story and tailor the experience to them. I love writing stories and learning new systems. Please reach out to me if you have a specific idea in mind for your play experience. I would love nothing more than to work with you to create a story that is unique to you!

I got started GMing...

After my first ever paycheck when I was 15 (soo 2004). I spent my whole paycheck on D&D books and was fascinated by the hobby so naturally the best way to get my friends started was to learn how to run a game and I've been DMing regularly ever since

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

The answer I usually get is Helpful, Creative, Rules lover haha

When I'm not running games I'm...

Writing for games, haha. I also perform at local renaissance fair events with my wife, cosplay at conventions like Comic Con, Dragon Con, and Starwars Celebration every year, and working allot lets be honest.

How Jeremy Madaus runs games

Most often my stories are open-world and roleplay-centric plots with multiple branching story arcs to drive the experience. Even when running pre-made content, I am happy to allow players to take the story off the rails and make it their own. The more I get to know a group, the more I tailor the experience to what they enjoy the most.

I deal with rules issues by...

erring on the side of story. I have a pretty good grasp on the rules for every system I run but I try not to let the rules get in the way of the story were trying to tell. You've got a vision for how your character performs in certain situations and I'm here to help you get there.

Rules are...

important for keeping things fair and balanced. Everyone has a vision for how their character performs and I'm here to build an environment were your vision is possible within a semi-flexible scope of the rules. That way no one feels like anyone is an exception. Everyone can get to where they want.

Jeremy Madaus's ideal table

My tables are an open forum for roleplay and creativity. My campaigns are always sandbox style. I create an environment and spend a few sessions introducing players to the background elements of the story, then I let my players explore the setting the way they want. I encourage every player to share their thoughts and tell me how their character would approach the situation, then I let the story react to their decisions. My players like to say I let them free then punish their choices... I like to say I let the characters drive the story.
