About JD Justice

Started TTRPGs with TMNT in the Palladium Megaverse long long ago and always loved building stories with friends, played through various systems and genres and am trying to get back into them. Have really enjoyed bringing people into TTRPGS and watching others have fun with friends building those amazing moments in a session. Since I had taken a long hiatus, I got back into TTRPGs with D&D 5e in 2018, began GM'ing due to there being a ton of interest but no one to run games. I studied and found a one-shot I like to use to introduce new players to D&D to demonstrate my GM'ing style and have used it many times to springboard into campaigns for groups that enjoy the way I run games. I tend to run modules and enjoy trying to incorporate character backstories into them; I have successfully run and finished Lost Mine of Phandelver almost a dozen times now (have not run the Shattered Obelisk portion). I like living worlds, so players have agency within them, but time is always passing, and choices have benefits and/or consequences.

I became a GM because

I enjoy helping people tell awesome and fun stories and building something memorable they can laugh with their friends about for years.

My favorite system of all Time is

Palladium Megaverse, the flexibility of the system plays in any & every genre from something close to real life with yourself as a character in a Predator scenario or something fantastic where your Saiyen homebrew is fighting off dragons in post-apocalyptic Earth overrun with vampires.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Reading or listening to books, or binging Youtube and movies for inspiration and to keep my imagination fresh.

How JD Justice runs games

I am a fan of a balanced game, mixing narrative/social interactions with combat and exploration. Just because one pillar starts it doesn't mean the other pillars end. However, I mostly take player feedback and enjoyment into account and love to produce something that can be fun for the whole party.

My games focus on...

player feedback, I begin most games balanced but as players feel out the things they like I do my best to flex to maximize enjoyment. I've found more often than not, the balanced style of social, exploration, and combat while blending them works for most parties so everyone can have fun equally.

Rules are...

Great foundation to keep things running smoothly, but are more like guidelines, at the end of the day the GM is in charge and sometimes it can definitely be a bit more fun to bend a rule for the enjoyment of the game.

When it comes to voices

I love trying to give NPCs unique voices so the players can tell them apart, I apologize for my short-term memory and hope you don't mind if I forget what voices I give to them all though 😅.

JD Justice's ideal table

If you are open minded, cooperative and out to build a collaborative story with friends I'd love to have you at my table. I try not to be too serious at the table, though sometimes story elements will necessitate it, we're there to have fun, forget the stress of real life and just find an amazing experience we can brag about with friends. I like bringing new people into the hobby or at least giving people that think they'd be interested a chance to experience ttrgps. I've had people who fall in love with them, and I've had people realize "this isn't for me" but at least I hope I gave them a fun and memorable experience. I am not perfect, but I am always learning so I thrive on feedback! Every table is unique, every player is unique and I just want to give you an experience you can think back on nostalgically for years and years.

I love it when a player

slowly gains the confidence and grows into their character. Having helped lots of newer players enter the hobby nothing beats the feeling of getting people so comfortable at the table they forget they were ever nervous or shy about trying the game out.

My table is not the place for...

rudeness or disrespect, we are there for fun and those are not my idea of fun so if they are yours, then I will happily suggest you find a different table to play at, there are certainly GMs for all types!
