About Gabriel-Riley

Greetings one and all! I have been running and playing TTRPGS consistently since I was 16 and its truly my greatest joy. Most of my experience is with various editions of D&D and Pathfinder but as of lately I have been the most interested in Daggerheart. I enjoy helping facilitate grand stories that propel the player characters into interesting narrative positions and wild locations. Whether its fighting a dragon on an air ship or rescuing an orphanage from a shifty loan shark, I seek to make the story as engaging as possible. With an associates degree in theater arts and as an aspiring actor my strengths really thrive in bringing characters to life for the players to interact with.

I became a GM because

When I got fed up with not being able to find a group I started one myself in hopes of eventually being on the player side of the GM screen. I fell in love with GMing and now I do it far more than I play.

My favorite books are

Frankenstein, The Hobbit, Jurassic Park

When I'm not running games I'm...

If I'm not running a game I'm likely playing in one, planning one, or indulging in video games.

How Gabriel-Riley runs games

My games are heavy in both roleplay and combat but I am always happy to be patient with players who are having a hard time and need an extra hand. No shame in just saying "I say something eloquent to convince the guard to help us." and then rolling a check when you're not the silver tongued artist in real life that your bard is in the game. The level of lethality in my games can vary depending on what the table wants but I am not the type to pull punches if what is happening is the direct consequences of the party's action. Over all I can be rather adaptive to what my party wants out of their game which is something I make sure is discussed in the all important session zeros. I also have a no tolerance policy for any form discrimination or bullying, although a discussion will always precede a ban in case the offender honestly didn't realize they were being offensive and apologizes.

My favorite trope is...

Zero to Hero is one of if not my favorite trope. Starting from nothing, a boots on the ground adventurer, who eventually slays dragons and saves a country, will always be a more interesting story to me. Destined heroes and chosen ones can be fun but not nearly as often.

Rules are...

Rules are meant to bent but not broken. The rule of cool is there to help enhance the game in the right moment, not defy it entirely, but in the end how strictly we abide by the rules as written is something that should be discussed during session 0.

When it comes to voices

I'm an aspiring voice actor with an associates degree in theater so I can only hope to bring my npcs and the rest of the gaming world to life for my players through my voice. However, I do not expect my players to do the same unless they find it fun.

Gabriel-Riley's ideal table

I try to make my table as welcoming as possible for this who want to engage with the game world I have crafted for them and expect my players to be as equally welcoming to each other. Players who are ready to ask questions, get into character, and take the initiative to see what happens next will fit well at my table. New players who like the idea of playing this way but have little to no experience are also welcome at my table as I am no stranger to teaching new gamers. We all have to start somewhere after all. Overall I'd say the vibe at my table is friendly theatrics, looking to see what surprises we all have for one another is the best way possible.

I love it when a player

Players who show initiative to act without prompting to help fill any quiet moments help the game feel more alive for both myself and the other players. It also tells me that I am doing a good job by creating a world that encourages that level of involvement.

I think min/maxing...

Min/Maxing is not the problem many make it out to be. Do some people use it as a tool to be a jerk? Sure, but player behavior and player builds are two different things. Its my job to make sure everyone at the table feels engaged regardless of build.
