About Eric

A lifelong obsession with gaming, sci-fantasy, cyberpunk with the intersection of my more recent interest in TTRPGs has led me into the path of being a professional GM. I started running Shadowrun 9 years ago after playing the hare-brained schemes and getting fully immersed in the world. Never could I have guessed that this curiosity would lead me to making lifelong friends, meeting my fiance, and becoming a demo agent for Catalyst Game Labs, the makers of Shadowrun. I am dedicated to sharing my passion with others and immersing them into a living breathing world of corporate espionage, secret magical societies and technology run amok. So, what are you waiting for chummer? Get your gear on and join the team. The shadows are waiting.

I got started GMing...

after watching actual plays like Critical Role and Harmontown. I had dealt with clinical depression and social anxiety and saw GMing as a way to overcome my own demons, but also to create a safe and nurturing environment for others to interact through shared story storytelling.

My favorite system of all Time is

Shadowrun 6th edition. It can be a little daunting and crunchy, especially for newer players, but I love guiding players through the learning curve and having them experience the pure joy that is the setting and gameplay mechanics that make Shadowrun so unique.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Either playing TCGs like Magic the Gathering, playing video games like Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 or creating digital illustrations or creative writing in the Shadowrun world.

How Eric runs games

I am a GM that very much likes to reward their players for creativity and thinking outside of the box. I think that the strength of TTRPGs is that we are not confined to set dialogues, and actions like a typical video game would be. I believe in a strong emphasis on character development and growth through overcoming adversity and helping others with the support of a group. I offer a living breathing world filled with NPCs each with their own motivations and personalities. I balance combat with roleplay and give my players moral dilemmas that there is no clear answer to. It is tantamount that everything in my games make logical sense, but ultimately that everything serves to create an interesting story that everyone contributes to.

Eric's ideal table

I stress inclusivity and mutual respect for everyone at the table. At its core TTRPG is a shared storytelling experience and it is my job to be both the director and the referee. Players that are respectful both of the other players and characters at the table as well as trusting me as a GM to guide everyone to a satisfying story and gameplay challenge are welcome. I also am very supportive of creative thinking, but within the framework of the rules as written. I believe there is some wiggle room there, but believe the rules offer the foundation for interesting and fun moments to happen. I also believe that a game and story need consequences to truly provide a fulfilling experience. The dice exist to be the arbiter of circumstances, but player actions will have consequences that cannot always be overcome through dice.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

A living breathing world where actions have consequences and NPCs have a full set of motivations and actions outside of the scope of what is directly happening to the party. I also very much like to incorporate character backstory gradually tangentially with campaign settings.

I love it when a player

Comes up with a creative solution to a problem or has a significant realization through character development. This is true of groups as a whole as well.
