I became a GM because

I have a bunch of great ideas I would love to see as games. I figure I can bring these ideas to life by stepping into the GM role and letting the players be the heroes in the tale I lay out before them. I am not a Me vs. The Players kind of GM. I want to set out a story that engages the players.

How Joshua runs games

I am a very story-oriented GM, and I am all about putting out a story that the players will be deeply engaged in. I am open to players being able to create a character they want as long as it will fit into the setting. I am willing to work with the rules and modify or homebrew rules, within reason, to help drive the story and the game flow and to allow the players to get into their characters.

For the sake of the game, if a solution can't be found quickly, we will go with my call at the table and seek the resolution afterwards. I do not want to bog down game time having rules discussions we can have after the game. I am always willing to admit that I made a mistake in the rules.

more on the story and trying to help the players immerse their characters into the game world so they feel like they are part of the world when we are playing the game.

When it comes to voices

I do my best, but I think all my voices end up sounding silly and goofy and like Sean Connery or Jimmy Stuart. I have fun with it, and I am working on the voices. I am better at just giving a good speech in my voice, but I try.

I am very welcoming to new players who are learning the game mechanics. I am a really laid-back GM with a focus on Storytelling over game mechanics. I am the kind who is willing to fudge the rules a bit to allow the players to be the big heroes of the story. I enjoy telling a story that will hopefully keep the players intrigued and coming back for more.

gets into describing what their character is doing rather than just saying, 'I am going to attack and roll the dice.' I also love it when a player brings a good backstory to their character, which helps tie it into the story better.

keep trying to make the main focus of the game about their character, and being disrespectful to the other players in the game.

My perfect party mix is

a group of players who want to work together as a team and not try to undermine the group because of their own agendas. I run TTRPGs as a co-operative venture, not player vs. player. If you want PvP, go play CoD.
