About Michael Johnson
Mike (Elvenranger) here! I’ve been rolling dice and crafting stories for over 20 years. My philosophy at the table is simple: we are a team, and it's never me versus you. Whether you have a wild character concept, a crazy cinematic idea, or a clever loophole you want to pull off, my job as your GM is to help you make it happen. While I’ve run plenty of D&D 5e over the years, these days my heart lies firmly with Daggerheart and narrative-forward systems that put character choices front and center.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
Daggerheart, Pathfinder, and Dread. I love the storytelling aspect of TTRPGs above all else, and I'm fascinated by the unique, innovative ways Dred (using tension and the Jenga tower to drive psychological horror) and Daggerheart completely revolutionize how we tell stories together.
My favorite books are
Ready Player One. This book inspires my GMing style completely. I love taking disparate pop culture elements, seemingly random details, and unexpected player choices that "don't connect" on the surface, and always finding a clever way to weave them together into an epic narrative.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Hanging out with my family, exploring the Central Florida theme parks, and watching movies and TV shows to pillage for inspiration for my next session or campaign idea.
How Michael Johnson runs games
Story-Driven & Character-Focused: For me, the magic of TTRPGs happens in the quiet conversations, the dramatic choices, and the unexpected character arcs. Roleplay takes center stage at my table, and combat is used deliberately as a high-stakes narrative tool when tension peaks and the story demands it, rather than just filler between rooms. Cinematic & Culturally Connected: I love making the world feel instantly relatable and alive. Expect plenty of pop culture references woven into dialogue and descriptions to help everyone instantly visualize a scene, crack a smile, or catch a hidden nod. The Soundtrack of the Adventure: Music is a huge part of how I set the mood. Depending on the circumstances, I love dropping in music references, whether it is a clever town name borrowed from a favorite track, a subtle lyrical nod hidden in an NPC's monologue, or the atmospheric vibe of a specific situation. Collaborative World-Building: My ultimate goal as a GM is to make sure everyone at the table is having fun. I am here to help you realize your wildest character ideas, reward creative problem-solving, and build an epic story together.

I prep by
My prep is a mix of cinematic inspiration (pulling vibes from movies and stories I'm loving) and deeply reading your backstories to weave your personal arcs directly into the world. I build the sandbox, plant the hooks, and then we discover what happens together.
