About Oscar
Hey! My name is Oscar and I’ve been playing D&D since 2020, primarily as a forever DM. I fell in love with the game during my very first encounter—a one-shot adventure a friend ran where we were the heroes who rallied a town to fight off some cultists—and I’ve been hooked ever since. My favorite part of D&D is collaborating with everyone to tell a unique story that makes the adventure unforgettable. I want to be part of even more stories and help create those moments we all cherish from our favorite games. I believe communication is key to making our experience enjoyable, which is why a Session 0 is important to me. I like to establish tone, expectations, campaign pace, do’s and don’ts, boundaries, and more before our game starts so we're all on the same page. I also like to do 1 on 1s and group check ins to make sure we are continually meeting those expectations. I steer clear of discussions about real-world religion and/or politics and have a zero-tolerance policy for hate speech or discrimination based on race, gender, sexual orientation, or any other personal traits. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, respected, and free to enjoy D&D the way that you want to play. So, what do you say? Wanna play?

I got started GMing...
As a player I enjoyed my first session of D&D but I was curious as to what the game looked like as the DM. I picked up the DMG and saw all the options for building a world, got started, and invited some friends over to play. I got hooked and have been pretty much running games ever since!
The three words my players would use to describe me are...
Prepared, knowledgeable, and flexible.
When I'm not running games I'm...
Playing videogames, hanging out with friends online, taking care of the family and being a dad.
How Oscar runs games
Roleplay is probably my favorite pillar of D&D with Combat a close second. I like to try and get into character and sometimes make funny voices or attempt a bad accent here or there. As far as combat goes, I like challenging but rewarding experiences. I like to run things as written for the most part but I'm not afraid of small changes here and there to fit a backstory/idea or tweak an encounter to be more deadly or manageable if it fits the narrative. Bottom line, I want it to be fun.

I deal with rules issues by...
Communicating. Before, during, and after session. I always establish my intent on how I adjudicate the rules during Session 0. But I also remind my players that I'm human, and I will forget a rule or get things wrong occasionally and I don't mind if someone reminds me or corrects me when it happens.
I once ran a session...
That was derailed by OSHA. My players convinced some cultists that they were of a higher order, there to inspect the dungeon to see if it was "up to code." There was of course a sacrificial pit with no safety railing and to demonstrate of how unsafe it was, they lured the boss over and pushed him in
When it comes to voices
I try my best but my voice is very monotone so I try and make up for it while being on camera with my facial and body expressions.

I think it's a red flag when players...
Consistently interrupt others and/or insert themselves into every moment, trying to become the "main pc."
I think min/maxing...
Can be fun when you use it to create a character that you want to do a specific thing (mechanically and/or thematically), but I think it becomes a bad thing when you take away from the experience of others; when what you create makes players feel irrelevant.
