About DM-Z
Hi, I'm Joel. I've been running D&D and other tabletop games for over 20 years, with experience in D&D 3e, Pathfinder, D&D 5e, Daggerheart, and Draw Steel.

I got started GMing...
After my third session playing. A friend in college got me and the rest of our friend group interested in playing, then decided he didn't want to so he gave me his books and I started running my own game.
My favorite system of all Time is
Daggerheart; it has all the elements I enjoy from D&D but with a much smoother and more dynamic system.
When I'm not running games I'm...

How DM-Z runs games
A solid mix of character interaction and action. Expect what you do to have consequences in the world, for good or ill. The players are the primary drivers of the story, but don't expect the rest of the world to go on pause-the villains are acting too.

I prep by
I prepare situations, not storylines. My games are driven by player action(or inaction) and how the world reacts to it.
Rules are...
An important structure to keep the game fair for everyone, though I am open to a good sell on why a rule should be changed.
When it comes to voices
Oh good, you hear the voices too? Wait...character voices, right.
DM-Z's ideal table
My games work best with at least one or two proactive players. A few 'audience members' are fine but the world is out there to explore; if you just sit in the tavern waiting for adventure to show up you're going to miss out on the fun!

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
Player-driven adventure, epic stories, and high stakes cinematic battles
I love it when a player
Thinks outside the box to solve a situation.
I think min/maxing...
Misses the point of these games. You're playing a person, not a collection of stats. That doesn't mean you can't be good at what you do, but playing a real person is what separates TTRPGs from video games.
