About DM Lawbind

Hello! I go by Lawbind, and I love being a Dungeon Master. I am also an author and roleplayer. I’m 34, a father of four from Tennessee, with 5.5 years of DM experience and 20+ years of text role-playing background. My goal: build a world where your choices matter, your characters feel alive, and every session ends with you thinking “That was awesome.” I have run a few dozen games over roll20, and am looking to run many more.

I became a GM because

I love being able to share in the experience of a player developing their character and story, and it gives me an outlet for my creative writing and world building.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Funny Prepared Adventurous

When I'm not running games I'm...

Writing or creating new stories, usually through text based roleplaying

How DM Lawbind runs games

I enjoy a good balance of meaningful roleplay, story progression, and combat. I enjoy having serious moments and well as funny, maybe even 4th wall breaking silly moments as well. A good laugh is as much fun as an epic moment when it comes to D&D. I always try to include player characters into the story in their own way, often through special story arcs they are involved in, or by connecting them to the main story somehow. The goal s for everybody to have fun creating a world and story together.

I deal with rules issues by...

Trying to find a middle ground between myself and the players, or the two players in question. Oftentimes there’s a solution so long as everybody is respectful.

I once ran a session...

The one shot session was called “of feathers and fur” where the players were birds (from a meme I found years ago) that were different D&d classes all owned by an old lady. They battled against the cats if the neighborhood. Hilarious times.

When it comes to voices

I try my best, which usually ends up as somewhat funny or quirky sounding horrible accents. Sometimes my players wil pretend like they are. It really, but then other times they will question it in character and it becomes a pretty funny moment. I’m also using voicemod at times now.

DM Lawbind's ideal table

Memorable storytelling, epic encounters, and halarious moments- these are all things players at my tables should expect. The type of player that will fit perfectly at my table are those that want ti work together with the other players to create a one of a kind, positive experience for everybody. There are moments of seriousness, intense, leaving you wondering “how will we manage this challenge” but also ones that will leave you laughing you butt off at comedic moments- that’s the secret formula. Even with premade modules or campaigns, the DM and the players will have a major voice in weaving the story not something unique for everybody. No adventure is complete without each character having their grand moment, both in story and battle.

I think min/maxing...

Is only ok if the reason for it is not to “beat everybody else.” As long as the players are all having fun and nobody is wya outdoing each other in the mechanics, it’s fine.

My perfect party mix is

A healer, at least one melee tanky or damage dealing, a damage heavy person, and some ranged (magic or arrows) with the last slot being a random thing that fits with the flow of that table. I’m also interested in unique takes if classes.
