About me
I've been running role-playing games since high school. Whether it was for a tight clique of friends or a group of disparate individuals across the world, I have tried to bring people together through my work. Creating and running games is a calling, an art form, and a passion. So often we are trapped by circumstances in real life. I feel like games should be an opportunity for people to feel important. I dislike railroaded plots because they deny the players the one thing that matters most: agency. You might be playing a street-level thug or a mighty lord of a kingdom, but you will always be the one making the decisions. Settings of special interest: Star Wars! Golden age of pirates. Warhammer 40 000. Zombie apocalypse. Bronze-age Superheroes. Feminist, LGBT ally, liberal. Dad. Shodan of shotokan karate. Nurse.
GM Style
I intend to run three different campaign settings on this site: Urban Shadows, set in New York City; Warhammer 40 000, set in the Gilead System; and Star Wars, set during the Rebellion. I spent a lot of time in university studying literature. I use that education to weave themes throughout the story. Every encounter adds to the story! I like to keep a light tone and encourage players to be imaginative. There's nothing I like better than being surprised by the players. I do some of my own sketches of characters, locations, and vehicles. I like to try to do character voices. Ask to hear my Australian accent! You are the stars of the story, not me. The player characters are always at the center of the plot and action.

Jay was a great Game Master pulling us in with an interesting story, unique voices, and a deep understanding of the system and lore. We had a great time with a perfect mixture of tactical problem solving, diplomacy, and when the need came to it combat with a quick exit strategy before the explosions went off! I highly recommend him and will continue to seek him out for running more games!

Jay is an amazing GM, running the game flawlessly with unique NPC's and character voices. Jay knows the rules and has established a wonderful world for you and your character to be immersed in, all the while allowing you to create on your own and develop your character to their fullest. Enjoyed every minute of it.

Jay is an energetic and imaginative GM. He makes his campaigns engaging with backstory and interesting NPCs. He is also flexible and can adapt depending on what the party wants to do. I've really enjoyed playing his campaigns.

I played in several campaigns with Jay and really enjoyed his NPC characters. He was also very responsive to player interests, incorporating directed sub-plots based on our characters back stories and accomplishments. He brings lots of enthusiasm to his campaigns, making it really fun to be a part of the story.

Jay is a very solid GM with obvious and definite effort put in to all regards of play. He'll make sure your character is more than just a block of numbers and skills, and has thought-out vague storylines for the sake of hitting emotional high and low points, rather than exactly pre-determined plot beats. This means the players and characters still feel as though they are driving the story rather than following a script. It's a precise balance, done quite well.
