About me

My games thrive on the thrill of emergent storytelling and creative problem solving, letting players lead the way in new, exciting worlds (or familiar ones, depending on the game!). I embrace all players' roleplay styles, from theatrical voices to descriptive narration to more quiet, observational types; this is YOUR game, and my role as DM is to empower you to get the most out of these games in the way you want to engage with it! I'm a children's librarian, writer, actor, and musician, but of all my ever-multiplying hobbies, I love running TTRPGs the most! I came to this site to run games for engaged groups who love telling stories, building worlds, and solving problems together.

GM Style

🤔 WHY CHOOSE ME AS A DM? I love to improvise and problem solve. If the party does something that completely throws off my plans for the next session, bring it on! If there are contradictions needing resolved, or an error so egregious that a dreaded retcon seems the only way out, fear not: I will find a way to serve your character, the story, and, in effect, the players, and make it as memorable and poignant as possible. 🤝 As a children's librarian (and former high school English teacher) who runs D&D frequently for children and adults of all interests, styles, ages, and ability levels, I make my focus centered around you, the player. I am constantly working to find what makes this game fun for you and maximize that component(s), and I strive to make this as fun, creative, challenging, and fulfilling as possible. 📖 As a GM, my focus is on two things: 1) the story we're telling together, and 2) you, the player. I work hard to make sure these elements blend seamlessly with each other and encourage emergent storytelling as much as possible to make this a memorable, worthwhile experience for all involved. 📍 I tweak (or overhaul) my campaign notes after each session to fit the players' interests and play styles, and I make sure no stone goes unturned, as long as that stone makes the story interesting and fun for all. But it's a double-edged sword: I promise I won't forget that your character has a pet chicken, just as I promise I won't forget that you used up all your spell slots at the end of last session! 🎭 I have a great sense of humor, as you will pick up on almost immediately, but I balance it tastefully with the darkness that often plagues these vast fantasy worlds. (If your party wants to tame a giant toad, or co-parent an orphaned goblin infant, who am I to stop you?) However, I am sure to always shift back to the appropriate time for the appropriate moment; while there will be plenty of room for fun and silly moments, I have a deft hand when it comes to avoiding any deflation of the gravitas during a dramatic situation. 🤹 I strive to balance the social, exploration, and combat aspects of D&D, though I tend to focus on the social and exploration aspects a bit more as they lend themselves to the narrative more fully, which, again, is my other primary goal. I love presenting a world plays want to be immersed into, letting them wander and poke things and interact with each other and with the denizens of whichever setting we've found ourselves in. 🎤 I do fun voices in my live plays, but my focus is on characterization and personality, as well as story and your characters' motivations (this is especially the case in my play-by-post games). Whether players use fun voices or simply describe what their character does, I focus the game on the players, from building the story around their characters' motivations, to providing opportunities to ensure they get to use their cool abilities. I embrace the challenge of any wrench players throw into the story, whether on accident or on purpose, and make sure each session is worthwhile and the players leave fulfilled by the experience. ☠️ My combat tends to be intense but swashbuckling (yes, please do swing on the chandelier!) and not as tactical, though I can adapt to your playstyle quite easily. I'm very descriptive and lean toward theater of the mind, especially in combat, as artwork and minis can sometimes limit what we can do in the game. However, I do like having something, whether it's just a map or evocative artwork, to inspire and immerse us while we play. If you have a more tactical style, fear not; I enjoy that, too, as long as it's the will of the group! 🌈 LGBTQ+ friendly! D&D and tabletop roleplaying is for everyone; my table is a place for sharing and celebrating stories, experiences, and ideas from all walks of life. 🌱 New and beginner friendly! If you're new to D&D or whatever system we're using, I don't mind teaching as we go (it's huge part of my day job), just as I don't mind being corrected when needed. This is a collaborative process and I love constructive feedback!
