About me

Update: due to expending my family I won't be able to DM for a while. My responss might take a week or more. Hi, nice to meet you! My name is Jaana and I've been playing DnD 5E for about 5 years. For the last 3 years I've been a DM on a weekly basis. I've also played 3.5 for a short time and a GoT version, been a DM for all kinds of different people and love tailoring my adventure based around the backgrounds of the PC's. I'm flexible in time and genre and prefer maps and tokens/mini's when I'm the DM. For more info check my profile!

GM Style

I've different styles of playing: 1. A story driven world of my own, where the player's background is heavily incorporated in the story. It will have a combination of RP and combat. Sometimes I'll throw in a puzzle, but it's not the main thing. I like realism as far as consequences for your actions and a world that keeps evolving, even without the characters. That way your choices have an impact on the world. 2. Forgotten Realms adventure books. I like to incorporate the players in the story and change little things. Sometimes the books aren't smooth or the story has an ending that is just one roll, those things I change. 3. My one-shots are usually a bit more dark, less character driven and more creepy. They can take over 10 hours, but I don't mind doing them in a day or splitting them in a couple of sessions. 4. I'm also open for other challenges, although I am focused on (high) fantasy and realism. For science fiction other DM's would be more appropriate. I don't mind the level of experience and tend to take spells and abilities as literal as possible. I want it to be fair, meaning if I said a rule works that way, you can totally use it against me when it's in your advantage. That said, the rule of cool when dealing the killing blow or flavoring things is totally fine. I don't mind changing little things to races if you really want to play a certain thing, but it doesn't fit. If you ask me, I'm always willing to work with you and be creative. In session 0 I'll talk to everybody and set the tone for the adventure and expectations. How goofy, or serious it will be and what we expect from each other. Let me know any questions you have!

Jaana is a very fun DM. She is very knowledgable with the rules and will help you if you don't understand something. The way she sets the mood flows very well and makes you believe your are in the world. I totally recommend playing one of her one shots. you will not be disappointed.

Had so much fun playing with Jaana. I am a DND newbie and she made everything seem simple and accessible for me, and her enthusiasm about the game made it easy to get into the story! I am very much looking forward to playing with her again!

Jaana does a really good job at incorporating every character into story and bringing NPCs to life with voices, art and dialogue. Add expertly arranged awesome table dynamics and you got yourself a hell of a campaign (hell? you get it?)

Played 1 session with Jaana so far. She is a great DM. She does a good job setting the scene and describing what is happening. Her virtual tabletop is pretty advanced, which to me means she has put a lot of time into building it. She is also VERY well prepared, I have been a PnP DM and I know how difficult it is to have everything down or memorized in a big campaign. I had a blast in my first session, it is among the best first sessions I have had as a player in 40 years of playing D&D.

Where to begin? I've been playing with Jaana for almost 2 years now and there are a lot of things I enjoy about participating in her campaigns. 1) really good at 'coaching', in the sense that she will adapt to the players and how much experience they have and what they can learn to enjoy DnD even more. Especially if you're new, she can help by warning you about certain choices/options so you can understand your own character and their options better (she's good at pointing out options that I never would have thought about when it comes to the personality or background of my characters for example), but she will also be the 'tough but fair' person that will let you make mistakes and suffer the consequences (especially if you keep making choices you've been warned for already, which I do often but for me that's sometimes the best way to learn). 2) She is able to keep up the pace in sessions, and mostly during fights. In some of our campaigns we have a tendency to overthink and over-discuss everything, and she'll make us focus on the 'reality' we're in and that it's not a logical choice to discuss our future plans while we're about to start a fight (for example). There's enough room for discussions and emotional moments and fun and character development, but she's great at moving us along if we need to as well. 3) I also really enjoy the way she's able to describe the world/setting you're in. Still have flashbacks of how intense and creepy some of our one-offs were, but she completely had me invested in those one-offs just by the way she described it. 4) kind of fits with 1, but she is not a DM that will railroad their players and force them into certain directions 'because she wants to' or because she hasn't prepared something. Even if we completely surprise her by our choices, you won't notice that she's improvised the part that follows. which brings me to 5), which is that she's almost always super well prepared. So we barely ever catch her by surprise, because she has most of the campaign setting already worked out before we can even think of going into certain directions. In short: would recommend Jaana every time. Think I'm very lucky to have her as a DM, and the way she's able to juggle between fun and tension during sessions and just having me as a player/character feel safe to make choices that might feel a bit out there (to me as a person) makes me look forward to playing with her every time.

"the cildren are gone" is an awesome mini campaign with an nice balance between exploring, RP, riddles and fighting. Before starting Jaana took each of us in an separate session where we created the charakter together. Jaana filled the NPCs and monsters with emotions and life, so the immersion is always on an high level. The riddles where fun and the encounters where quite scary. If there are gameplay questions she knows the rules very well, adapt the "rule of cool" and her own homebrew content, she was always fair with the PCs requests. I will play with Jaana again, she is realy good and you can see that she take the necessary time for each session for preparation.
