About DJ

Long time player and more recent GM convert, I realize I have been playing RPGs for most of my life. As far as TTRPGs, I have played and DM'ed full 1-20 campaigns (I still play with my original group 6 years later!), as well as multiple modules and adventures here on SPG! I enjoy setting up games with memorable moments, engaging and varied combat, and character choices at every opportunity. I am adept at creating immersive worlds, scenarios, and characters. I have loads of previous experience in teaching, coaching, and training so new players, wild character concepts, and new ideas are always welcome. I generally fall on the high-collaboration, deep creativity, rule of cool, and casual side of running campaigns.

I became a GM because

I enjoy setting up scenarios and seeing how people react, the choices they make, and how their creativity adds to the experience.

People are always surprised when I tell them

that I GM TTRPGs at all. I come from a background of athletics and sport, so people make assumptions of the types of hobbies I get into. TTRPGs are a great change of pace for their expectations.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

creative, engaging, funny.

How DJ runs games

MY GM style is character-focused, based on immersive worlds and settings, with a big emphasis on player stories and choice. I like setting up challenging scenarios in both roleplay and combat settings, including difficult, character-based choices that let players flex their insight and understanding of their character. I like to base combat encounters on the ongoing story and adventure, tying in the various combats into the narrative as often as possible. I have the most fun with players who are proactive, "yes, and" type collaborative story tellers. Scenarios and encounters of all types are always open to collaborative, creative problem solving and solutions, and I want players to feel encouraged and empowered to give something a shot whenever they have ideas. My table is a casual, easy-going space, where the focus is always on the fun.

My games focus on...

the fun. If it isn't fun, why bother?

DJ's ideal table

A group of fun oriented, easy-going players who value the group having a good time above anything else. I work best with players who enjoy working together to solve problems and come up with creative solutions because I like to throw different kinds of challenges at players all the time. I run more Rule of Cool than Rules as Written but mostly to encourage players to be creative and dynamic in their decision making. If you want a space where you are free to try things, do something different, and take chances, then I am your GM!

I love it when a player

really goes for it and tries something unexpected, creative, or outlandish. Go for it. You never know.
