GM Style

Playing with Juice My goal as GM is to pose charged questions that we discover the answers to through play. And by charged, I mean that the answers we discover will be consequential for the setting or the characters, especially if they reveal something about the characters, their beliefs, morals and how they deal with disaster. And in order for there to be meaningful character or setting consequences, there needs to be meaningful characters and setting. So another component of playing with charge is bringing those alive, making them move on their own, and especially making the actions of the player characters reverberate noticeably through them. Playing to Find Out If I have any idea what's going to happen ahead of time, it's only what will happen if y'all's characters never intervene. Moreover, I don't know what the player characters are gonna do! While I welcome y'all to think about it, I hope you'll leave room to surprise yourselves. I like to play games to see where they'll take us. Hopefully to somewhere we might not otherwise have gone. And I have an abiding interest in games that might not have been played, not for decades, or not ever, or that have otherwise gone missed on our way through roleplaying history. Playing Together Rule of Cool? Rules as Written? I say it's we who are the moment-to-moment rulers of our own aesthetics! Sometimes we'll let the rules guide us, other times we'll follow the established fiction, and other times still we'll decide that we have even better ideas. Safety is less about wielding the right tools to protect ourselves and each other from harm, and more about building a culture of safety and communication at the table. Simply Playing I'm not a voice actor (yet). I don't have spectacular microphone or camera. I do, luckily, have damn good internet. But I also don't know much about VTTs and, honestly, I'm happy to play in a Discord call with everyone rolling dice at home. I find the sublime comes through intention more than production.
