About Dm brunhild
I am a Dungeon Master who lives in the Pacific Northwest. Prior to DMing on Start Playing, I held an average of about one session per day for over a year and a half, not counting the number of times I have hosted. I blend my background in writing and philosophy with a highly active and technical approach to DMing. With over 200 sessions hosted in the past few years, I’ve demonstrated commitment to both long-form storytelling and tactical play. My setup, using Owlbear Rodeo with dynamic lighting and Avrae on Discord for dice rolls and character tracking, allows for a smooth and immersive online D&D experience. - DM Brunhild, 11/2025

How Dm brunhild runs games
I use a combination of rules as written (RAW) and house rules to ensure that combat is fast-paced and intense. I am a worldbuilder at heart and I present worlds with real-time events and changes effected by players. HOUSE RULES: 1. Jolly Coin 1.1 Instead of inspiration, players may earn Jolly Coins. 1.2 Jolly Coins are a stackable form of inspiration, there is no cap. 1.3 A Jolly Coin may be spent to reroll one d20. 1.4 (If PvP ON) A Jolly Coin may be spent to force a teammate to reroll and take the worse result. 2. Rule of ❌ 2.1 If this emoji ❌ appears in chat, the topic is over. 2.2 No further discussion will be entertained, unless it aligns with players' concerns. 3. Rule of Cool 3.1 If something is cool enough, it is permitted. 3.2 If it breaks the game, it must be cooler still. 4. Rule of Lazy 4.1 If something is too tedious to track, we do not track it. 4.2 If a ruling simplifies play without breaking immersion, we favor simplicity. 5. Variant Skill Checks (5e only) 5.1 The world is not rigid, and neither are the paths to success. 5.2 Alternative ability pairings may apply to skill checks when justified. 6. Flanking is not Advantage (5e only) 6.1 Flanking does not grant advantage. 6.2 Instead, flanking follows Gang Up Rules: 6.2.1 +1 to attack rolls per adjacent ally, if flanking conditions are met. 7. Sprinting Cleave (5e only) 7.1 If you reduce a creature to 0 hit points, you may immediately move your full movement speed. 7.2 This movement ignores remaining movement speed restrictions. 8. Respect People’s Pronouns 8.1 Respecting pronouns is a baseline expectation. 8.2 If this is a problem for you, this is not your table. 9. Remember You Will Die 9.1 Your character is mortal. 9.2 This is neither tragedy nor punishment; it is the nature of things. 10. Share the Spotlight 10.1 Everyone gets their moment. 10.2 Do not hoard narrative space. 11. Working Mic 11.1 A working microphone is required for play. 11.2 Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis.
