I got started GMing...

just to play more and got hooked. MUDs and games like Chrono Trigger and Deus Ex showed me stories could be lived. Inspired by Butcher, Martin, Rofus, Christie, and fantasy/sci-fi, I began with Adventurers League at the local shop and never stopped.

My favorite shows/movies are

For Movies 🎬 in no particular order ⚫️ Se7en ⚫️ Fight Club ⚫️ Tenet ⚫️ Primer ⚫️ Old Boy (2003) ⚫️ Howl's Moving Castle ⚫️ Princess Mononoke ⚫️ Hudson Hawk ⚫️ The Cabin in the Woods

How Cobalt Robot runs games

My GM style centers on immersion, atmosphere, and bringing the setting to life. I want players to feel drawn into the world until they are fully invested in its tone, mysteries, and conflicts. I put a lot of emphasis on making the setting feel vivid and lived in so that the story has weight and the players’ choices matter. I lean heavily toward roleplay, mystery-solving, and character interaction. I enjoy using character voices to help NPCs feel distinct and memorable, and I like giving players space to explore their personalities, relationships, and choices at the table. While I enjoy crunchy tactical combat and love discussing builds, synergies, and strategy, I usually see combat as one part of a bigger experience rather than the sole focus. I am especially drawn to puzzles, riddles, and mysteries, and I love seeing players piece together clues or solve problems in creative, unexpected ways. Overall, my games tend to favor roleplay over constant combat, with a strong focus on tone, immersion, setting, and memorable character-driven moments.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...

David Fincher or Christopher Nolan. Fincher matches the dark, gritty noir tone I love, while Nolan reflects my love of layered mysteries, nonlinear storytelling, and character-driven tension. Think Se7en, Fight Club, Memento, and Interstellar.

Cobalt Robot's ideal table

My ideal table is made up of players who are aware of one another, willing to share the spotlight, and genuinely enjoy each other’s successes as much as their own. I love players who invest not just in their characters, but in the world, the story, and the group as a whole. I especially enjoy tables that embrace team problem-solving, where everyone brings their strengths together in pursuit of a common goal. The vibe at my table is cooperative, engaged, and story-focused, with plenty of room for character moments, collaboration, and shared wins.

I love it when a player

genuinely shares in another player’s moment, whether that means smiling, tearing up, or celebrating their success right alongside them. That kind of empathy and support creates the exact table vibe I love: collaborative, encouraging, and memorable.
