About Steve
While still at school I discovered a game called Heroquest, back in the 90’s. This was a gateway game and I quickly followed it down the rabbit hole to Games Workshop and Warhammer, where I started to collect and paint Dwarf models, I had just finished reading The Hobbit and was feeling the Dwarf inspiration. That was back in the Warhammer Fantasy Battle 3rd edition days and I have pretty much played it ever since. After leaving school I discovered Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and picked up all the material I could for it and began my GMing for my friends. After running many successful games and campaigns for decades, throughout various editions of the game I thought I would see if there was an opportunity for me to run even more games by putting myself out there to the wider community. I have introduced many many new people to the hobby, some new to Warhammer, some new to the whole idea of gaming and TTRPG’s. I am very happy running a game for totally inexperienced players as much as I am experienced ones. I just love stories, movies, tv series, books, music, anecdotes from friends, I love a ripping yarn, and I think being a GM is a wonderful way to create a story in which you cannot guarantee the outcome, and so the story is enhanced by the players helping tell it in the way they want to, it becomes an interactive story.

I started running games because...
I wanted to be an author and coming up with a complete plot and taking that to completion is hard. Also in doing this I get to tell stories but to enjoy them with other people who get to steer the story as well and I get to see/hear how much they enjoy it!
My favorite system of all Time is
Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay (wfrp) I have been running games in this system from 1st edition to the current 4th edition (5th is coming soon), but I didn’t run 3rd 💁 Unique blend of humour and crazy mixed with horror elements, I just love it 😻
When I'm not running games I'm...
Mostly painting toy soldiers for various Warhammer based games and sometimes…😱 other games from other companies!!!!! Oh and going to actual, normal boring day job so I can buy more toy soldiers and more Warhammer Roleplay books for the ever expanding game worlds.
How Steve runs games
I love to add a bit of humour and even the occasional cheeky reference into my games from other things that people might recognise. I like to try different accents for NPC’s but sadly a lot of them end up sounding like they come from London, even if that wasn’t the intention. I like to run through a plot, so my games can seem a bit constrictive to those used to more freedom. Having run games for so many new players for their first game I like to take the pressure off and offer the group a small selection of pre generated characters to choose from. I like a plot that features investigation, exploration, plenty of chance to talk to NPC’s but that also features combat multiple times, although certainly not guaranteed for every session. Being Warhammer the games will potentially have elements of injury detail, body horror and mental illness (Chaos Mutations) as well as prejudice, such as Dwarfs hating Goblins and disliking Elves. The characters will mostly be poor, it is a rare player character that can be considered wealthy, unless you choose a Noble, and magic items, weapons, armour etc are exceedingly rare. I love to engage the player characters in discourse through my NPC’s but am also happy for player less comfortable with this to simply state what 8 is they wish to say rather than roleplay it out.

If my games were Movies they'd be directed by...
Ivan Reitman would be great, he directed the first two Ghostbusters movies, my absolutely favourite movies of all time. If I could I’d be a ghostbuster just like in the movies, even at the risk of wearing a nuclear accelerator on my back confronting stairs that go up!
My favorite trope is...
Well all of them really, but also none of them all at the same time. I like to lean into a trope so everyone thinks they know what’s going to happen and then flip it just when everyone is comfy so it shakes up expectations. But only in fun, not a mean horrible way!
When it comes to voices
So I love doing all my Dwarfs as Scottish or if Norse Dwarfs a terrible Norse accent. I’ve been told my Eastern European accent is very Jamaican and a lot of my voices seem to turn very London. But I try hard…….😉
Steve's ideal table
Pretty chilled really, I like the players to talk to each other in character and to non player characters but I do not enforce this as I understand some people are just not comfortable doing it. If a tactics discussion involves rules and so talking out of character that’s fine too, I love to hear what the players are plotting to defeat my fiendish bad guys and in game awkward social interactions. I have no issues with someone wanting to roll dice for a charm test instead of roleplaying the attempt to charm the guards. I would appreciate it if people could avoid looking at their phones during the session, but of course if messages or calls need to be answered then go for it. I like a fun relaxed time gaming, not super grim or dark, but with enough grit to the game to make combat a risk if you either suffer some bad luck or the party plan an attack badly. I don’t actually want to kill the party but I’m not going to save them either, if you charge at a Dragon all alone you probably won’t be playing that character for very long… I actually really love running a game for new players, there is something really fun being able to reveal my version of the Warhammer World to people who don’t know it very much or at all. Also don't worry about thinking you might make a mistake and won’t know what to do, it is just a game, we’ll sort it all out and have a lot fun doing it.

I love it when a player
Is so enjoying the story and the plot that they end up thinking about it when not playing. Like looking forward to the next episode of their favourite TV show. I have had players tell me this has been them and it literally makes my day! Best feeling in the world (except chocolate) of course 😀
I think min/maxing...
I’m not a huge fan of min/maxing, but in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay this isn’t so much of a problem as the rules tend to either help your character become pretty good at a couple of things or be a fairly good all rounder. It’s not a wargame, it’s an interactive story.
My perfect party mix is
Firmly tongue in cheek here, my favourite party has no Elves and no Wizards 😉 But seriously the nature of WFRP is that you have a random collection of characters just trying to do their best, fight a little of the good fight (mostly), and make a bit of coin. So my perfect party mix is random ☺️
