About Bandifus

I learned roleplaying games from my camp counselor way back in 2014. I originally learned Pathfinder and took my learnings back from camp to start running games for my High School friends. In my first session, I accidentally party wiped my players in their first combat. Since then, I have learned and grown a lot over many campaigns. Now, when my player's character dies, it is dramatic and usually the consequence of many questionable actions. I started learning 5e after Pathfinder by avidly watching Critical Role and am currently running a D&D 5e game in the World of Exandria. I like to think my DM style has the roleplaying of Matt Mercer (worse vocal range), the rules following of Brennan Lee Mulligan, and just a splash of Aabria Iyengar's spontaneous player freedom (hopefully these references land with you). I love roleplaying games because they are a way for us to express ourselves without the fear of judgment that you may experience when doing so in the real world. A group of people can come together around a table or on a discord call to challenge, create, and play collaboratively. I love serving people, which is why I so eagerly took up DM'ing back in 2014 when I learned about roleplaying games. I hope to give people seeking fun, engaging, easygoing games the D&D experience they deserve.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Collaborative, gracious, and animated. I love to learn and build the story that my players want for their characters. I understand it can be a lot - if you forget where your AC is on your character sheet, no worries, a 24 definitely hits. I bring energy to our games!

How Bandifus runs games

The most important thing in my games is that my players are having fun. It is very important for me to align with my players on the type of game they want, so that when I do my prep, I can plan for that and deliver it in the game. I like to check in with my players after sessions to learn what they liked and what they didn't like. I want to build a story collaboratively with my players, giving them full agency over the path that their characters take. I communicate with my players to learn what they want for their characters, so I can present opportunities in the game to achieve their characters' goals. Generally, my games run 60% roleplay/exploration and 40% combat. I can shift this distribution based on what my players prefer. I have run multiple games within the World of Exandria and would love to continue running games in this setting. This setting is your classic fantasy world and was used in Seasons 1 through 3 of Critical Role. I am willing to hit on any themes in our game as long as all players are comfortable with them. I can also run games outside of this setting, but prefer to run games using 5e or Pathfinder.

Rules are...

"Rules are threats made by the dominant game master in a given system. It's just a promise of damage that's enacted and books are basically a legal contract, you know what I mean?" - Brennen Lee Mulligan..... Just kidding, I think rules are helpful and should be followed, but there are times to not.

Bandifus's ideal table

I love Critical Role and model my Game Mastering after Matt Mercer and the Critical Role games. Given this, I like my players to take the story and roleplay seriously. At the same time, I love it when my players get into shenanigans and hijinks. This is a (somewhat) REAL world we are building together with REAL consequences, so we will take a 3-session detour from the main story to reverse some world-breaking action or help a party member escape from jail, and it will be fun.

I love it when a player

I love it when a player tells me something that they want their character to go through or a transformation they want for their character.
