About Samuel
I was properly introduced to the world of TTRPGs in 2015 through Critical Role and became a huge fan of all things D&D. I was so enamored with the game and storytelling medium that I was determined to join a game at any cost and in a sadly too common way I joined my first game that turned out to be a rather bad experience. However, I refused to give up and kept searching until I finally found a table that was right for me. I’m pleased to say that I found such a table and that playing with that group is still to this day a great and fun time. I learned a lot about what made a satisfying playing experience with them, and they were the ones that gave me the confidence to try my hand at DMing. Since then, I have made countless great memories and wonderful friendships. It is now my hope to provide a great first-time experience for new players or to be that welcoming table for those who have been seeking for a while a safe and fun space to explore engaging stories with friends. I am also a fan of many more actual plays like Dimension20, Legends of Avantris, LA by Night, Not Another D&D Podcast and Private Nightmares, which have all expanded my views on what games can be like and what they can provide in term of experience. If this appeals to you please let me know and in any case I hope you find a table for you. I truly believe that everyone deserves a good time with friends telling great stories.

I started running games because...
I love stories and seeing the stars in peoples eyes when they make a bold choice that ends up saving the day, when they see the twist in the story or when at the end of the tale they look back on a journey full of wonder.
My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be
-D&D 5.5 -Vampire: The Masquerade 5th Edition -Cypher System

How Samuel runs games
I love intrigue, drama, moral quandaries and emotionally rewarding stories. I love telling communal stories where the player gets to make impactful choices that shape their character’s arc and the world in which they are playing. In the same vein I try to provide combats that serve to enhance and advance the story while trying my best to avoid pointless fights that can at times too easily turn into a slog. I also lean a little more towards the “rule of cool” approach. That doesn’t mean I disregard the rules, but I try to adjudicate them in a way that will always serve the players and the story we are trying to tell. My love of story and characters also pushes me to create various NPCs with quirks and personalities of their own. The NPCs are not the main characters and should never upstage the player characters, but I want my players to grow to love their allies and hate their enemies. I like to explore the complexity of the human condition. I always want to provide a fun and safe space for my players. During session 0 I make a point to learn and respect my players limits. I am comfortable running games with darker themes if everyone at the table wants to. In conclusion, I run games where story and roleplay are the main pillars of play. Where player choices need to have an impact on the world. Games of various genres and various themes with emotional complexity. Games where we are all telling a great rewarding story and most importantly where we are all having fun.

I am for a vibe that's...
open, fun and respectful where everyone can tell a story that is dear to them and share it with others.
I love it when a player
-Wants to make a character that feels like a part of the world. -Makes bold choices to move the story forward in interesting ways. -Is not only invested in their own character, but also their fellow players' characters.
