About Chris M
I have 30 years of GM-ing experience, going all the way back to the mid-90's, writing and running campaigns for Cyberpunk 2020 and Star Wars to D&D 3.5 and finally 5e. I've just recently completed running a two-year Tomb of Annihilation campaign on Roll20. I am an artist and writer who values personal creativity, and encourages it in all aspects of the game, from character backstories to my own descriptions and artwork.

My favorite books are
What Moves the Dead, Dracula, and Leviathan Wakes. I love stories that creep me out and keep me guessing.
When I'm not running games I'm...
working alongside independent authors as a developmental editor. It is literally my job to recognize good stories and make them better.
How Chris M runs games
To make my games more immersive, I like to create personal stakes by infusing character backstories into the larger narrative. What matters most to me is that characters have multiple opportunities to navigate their destinies in all facets of the game. My games lean on a fairly balanced mix of roleplay, exploration, and combat. I enjoy providing players with opportunities to be creative as they explore what their characters are capable of before and after initiative is rolled.

I deal with rules issues by...
making a call in the moment that's fair to the player(s) and the situation, then revisiting the issue out of game. If I was wrong, I'll adjust going forward. Let's keep the momentum rolling.
Chris M's ideal table
Whether you're brand new to D&D or have years of experience, you will find a home at my table if you insert your character into the world. If the stakes become personal, working with others toward a common goal is not only easy, but it also makes the game a lot more fun.

I am for a vibe that's...
laid back and collaborative. I love it when players work together to come up with creative solutions to problems that seem to have no obvious solution.
