About Ethan
Hello, my name is Ethan, and I've been a dungeon master for 7 years now! My older brother introduced me and a group of my friends to DnD and ever since, I've loved playing and running games for them, and my other friends online. I currently run 2 games with my friends online, and wanted to dip my toes in the professional side of DMing. I create my own maps, use Foundry VTT for the most immersive experience, and add music and ambience to further that immersion. I have all the sources dnd has to offer, so players have total creative freedom. I'm not too restrictive when it comes to how you make your character, as long as you are having fun making them. I love to bring an energetic attitude to the table and encourage my players through roleplay and tense combat with acted out scenes. I try to stray from the "Yeah that hits. Roll Damage. 16? Okay. He's Bloodied. Next turn." I encourage everyone at my table to get out of their comfort zones and really get into their role. This type of immersion is why I love playing and running games. I currently only dm for Dungeons and Dragons 5e, but I'm looking into other TTRPG's like Pathfinder 2e, Vagabond, Dreams of No Sleep, and Twilight Sword. If you have any questions for me just ask away and I'll get back to you! :)

I became a GM because
my older brother was always the dm, so I tried it out to give him a chance to play. I really starting getting into it whenever I played with strangers online and the DMs were not great. So I decided instead of finding a game master for me, to just become the game master I've always wanted to be!
My favorite system of all Time is
Dungeons and Dragons. I haven't really played or dm'd for many other games but I'm slowly expanding my horizons!
When I'm not running games I'm...
either playing games, or spending time with my girlfriend. I cook all of our meals and tidy up the house from time to time. I also like to go to my local gaming bar to try out new board games and such. I also work as a Technician at my job.
How Ethan runs games
I lean into roleplay more than combat, and even in combat there is still roleplay going on. Social encounters and playing your role are, to me, an integral part of the Tabletop Roleplaying experience. On a ratio with Roleplay/Exploration/Combat I would say my games run at 50/20/30

My games focus on...
Storytelling and player interactions with the world. Every step the player makes is critical and important to the plot. They set up the Chekhov's Gun, and I just determine when it goes off.
Rules are...
meant to be broken. Kinda sorta. They're a basic guidline on how a game should run, but isn't a set in stone method. Rules have fluidity and can be altered depending on the situation. Like the Rule of Cool!
When it comes to voices
I try to fully act in character, both in voices, and in video with different telegraphed body language. When I play a character, I try my best to ACT like that character.
Ethan's ideal table
I like a good energy at my table. Players who are here to be heroes and have a fun night meeting new people and playing storytelling games best fit at my table. If you don't have the energy, then don't worry, I can pivot the scene and help you out with some other characters or npc's to help you.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table
The Legend of Zelda or Final Fantasy
I love it when a player
creates meaningful character moments that the entire party can remember, and also moments that I can use and amplify in the story later on.
I think min/maxing...
takes the fun out of the game. I occasionally allow it and warn the player, "Just know that I'll be dealing with that!" But it usually ends up hurting the party dynamic quite a bit.
