About Kevin

Hello! My name is Kevin and I’ve been running TTRPGs for over 25 years. I have a passion for collaborative storytelling and worldbuilding. The most important aspect of TTRPGs for me is that when my players are having fun, I’m having fun. In terms of my style, I seek balance between storytelling, roleplay, tactical combat, and exploration. While a session may lean into one style, the next might be totally different. My specialty is running full, multi-year campaigns where players have a real and lasting impact on the game world. I’m happy to work with all experience levels, from teaching new players to collaborating with seasoned veterans. I tend to run games in unique and thematic homebrew worlds, each with their own lore to explore. I’m more than happy to run published adventures however, just send me a message. My focus right now is on Dungeons and Dragons 2014 and 2024, but I have experience with most editions of D&D, Pathfinder, and several other systems. I love learning new systems, if there is something a group wants to try. I also have experience with game design, which informs my approach to integrating homebrew (or creating custom homebrew for players). I’m looking forward to telling great stories together!

I got started GMing...

A friend's dad introduced us to D&D and ran a short campaign for us in middle school. We were hooked and needed someone to run a game.

My favorite books are

The Lord of the Rings (or anything by Tolkien really), Shakespeare, especially The Merchant of Venice, 1984, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I could go on... and on...

People are always surprised when I tell them

I once created my own language and then proceeded to lose all my notes on it. Still hoping to find it buried in stacks of papers some day.

How Kevin runs games

My GMing style is all about variety. I shift the spotlight between storytelling, roleplay, tactical combat, and exploration. Sometimes these shifts happen quickly and sometimes a whole session will focus on one or two aspects. I love leaning into player agency. My best TTRPG memories are from players creating an idea or strategy I didn't expect. As long as the idea is consistent with the world, we'll roll with it and together (along with the dice) decide the consequences. Collaboration is another important aspect for me. Everyone at the table is working together to tell an unforgettable story. I enjoy supporting all players throughout this process.

I prep by

thinking about the motivations of the characters involved. What do they want? Then I try to guess how the party will react but resign myself to the inevitable, unexpected shenanigans.

My games focus on...

the impacts that characters have on the world around them. Every game, every character, leaves a mark.

Rules are...

important, but not the whole story. Limitations can actually spark creativity. You have to know when to adapt, however.

Kevin's ideal table

The main thing I look for in a player is eagerness. Rules can be learned, styles accommodated, but that desire to participate is irreplaceable. My table is fun forward; variety and engagement are the names of the game. I like seeing the unexpected from my players, even or especially when it derails an adventure.

I love it when a player

comes up with something inventive, yet logically rooted in the game world. These are the kind of ideas I love saying yes to.

I think min/maxing...

is fine, as long as your character isn't defined by it. Give me a min/maxed character with a compelling story and arc and I'm happy.

My perfect party mix is

one where everyone has a character they enjoy. It isn't too difficult to tailor challenges to a specific party. I also like when the party works as a team to ensure everyone has a focus where they can really shine.
