About Charlie Tuesday

Yo! My name's Charlie. I'm a 26-year-old butch who's in love with story-telling and game design. Naturally, this leads me to create custom systems for use to effectively the tell the type of story I want. I make overhauls to fill in the gaps of existing systems, and pull from a myriad of other TTRPG games to hash together rules that enhance gameplay, rather than get in the way of it. If you like homebrew or aren't satisfied with the way current D&D 5e (or other systems!) are played, I'm the DM for you. I like to dabble in a myriad of different themes for my games. Prior to starting on this platform, I've ran a superhero campaign using Cypher, a mystery campaign using Pokemon Tabletop United, and a more standard adventure fantasy using Pathfinder 2e. I'm also currently DMing a cosmic mystery campaign using D&D 5e, although I've modified the rules quite a bit to better fit the campaign's vision. I'd like to eventually try my hand at Shadowdark, Shadowrun, Thirsty Sword Lesbians, Draw Steel, and some niche indie TTRPGs that some folks have made that I wish got more exposure! I think my favourite systems I've played are Cypher and Pathfinder 1e. One provides satisfying crunch and powergaming, the other provides clean narrative flow without getting bogged down in rules. Both are good for different types of campaigns. Generally I want to my make my campaigns more conducive to the TTRPG system I'm playing with. Different systems allow for different elements of RP to shine, and different styles of campaigns benefit from these. I've also played in many different systems including Pathfinder 1e, Starfinder 1e, Advanced D&D, D&D 4e, and Old School Essentials. I'm down to run any system, and I currently have a custom one that uses many elements from the Cypher system that I'm working on for use in a gothic horror campaign much like the Castlevania series, so stay tuned if that peaks your interest! You can reach out to me on here for any questions or even just want to talk game design with me, or you can email me at rattmuck@gmail.com. I'm more likely to check my email since I have to be at my computer to check startplaying.

I became a GM because

Being a player is fun on its own, but I often found myself making backstories for my characters that made up about half of the world's lore for the GM on its own. Some GMs might not mind this, but I really enjoy adding onto player backstories with unknown variables that they have to overcome.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

Pathfinder, Cypher, and Starfinder. I feel like all of these provide options for complexity (Pathfinder), simplicity with a narrative focus (Cypher), and mid-complexity with a sci-fi space opera element for variety (Starfinder).

When I'm not running games I'm...

Producing music, sometimes for the games I GM!

How Charlie Tuesday runs games

I love filling in gaps for character backstory. If you hand it to me, I'll use it. NPCs, motivations, anything. The PCs are the core of any game. I'm simply here to allow you to play those characters out! If you have any additional things you make for you character such as art, music, or any media really, I'd be happy to give them a look! Reading short stories I'll try to do, but I can't guarantee I'll have time to look at them always. I love when players fall in love with their characters they've made. I like my combats to be tough and challenging, but fair. If you pull the wool over my eyes, you earned it fair and square. I play NPCs and monsters as they are, meaning they won't change their mind on things arbitrarily. If they want to kill you, they're going to try and kill you. Don't get it twisted, though. I'm not bringing in combats that I know can't win. Sometimes, I may bring in combats that I'm not too sure if you can win. I'll let you know when those are happening. Other than combat though, I also lean heavily into roleplay and I love listening to players roleplay with each other. I like to call my sessions combat heavy AND roleplay heavy, for all that's worth. I care about immersion more than anything else. If you live in a dangerous world, I'll make sure it's dangerous. If it's cozy, I'll make sure it's cozy! I totally don't mind flirting with PCs as NPCs, but if I feel it's getting too meta or leans too NSFW, I'll simply say the scene fades to black. If you're a minor, well you won't be because all of my games are 18+. Sorry!

Charlie Tuesday's ideal table

I love players who take the game seriously. Ironically, I've noticed this usually creates players who are more light-hearted and can have a laugh during a session. Roleplaying is a surprisingly vulnerable hobby, and I want everyone to feel comfortable enough to play their character fully as intended.

I love it when a player

Completely trivializes an encounter with a creative solution. I don't care if I have to throw several homebrewed stat-blocks out the window, a player spotting and taking advantage of a flaw in the design both lets me know what I have to be aware of and is just plain impressive to witness.

I think metagaming...

Is fine when it's mechanical and collaborative. For example, deciding who should go talk to an important NPC based on who has the highest persuasion is totally reasonable. Changing your behaviour to accommodate new information that was accidentally spoiled to you is less so. It's all case-by-case.

My table is not the place for...

Misgendering, in or out of character. It's obviously not a safe place for any kind of bigot but that should go without saying. Misgendering player characters (And NPCs!) can still cause real-life dysphoria and hurt, so just don't do it. Accidents happen but I don't give out many second chances.
