How Ivan runs games

I run hombrew campaigns that exist within the continent of Faerun. I love implementing high fantasy, political intigue and survival elements into my campaigns. The worlds within my campaign are shaped by the decisions of the players. I am more interested in a collaborative effort to create a story rather than a pre-planned story being followed by the players. My campaigns are often whimsical and light-hearted for the majority of the time but when stakes increase and it's time to get serious, I will change to a very serious tone. I like to balance combat with role-playing. To this end, I like to describe actions and have players decribe theirs. Combat should always feel impactful and challenging and no rolls can be fudged, no matter how unwanted the outcome may be. Nearly every one of my players have been completely new to the hobby giving me plenty of experience with new players. I really enjoy teaching the mechanics and giving tips to new players. Lastly, I am very open minded when it comes to themes within campaigns. I'll always confirm with the group what's allowed and what's not, but I will research and attempt my best to tackle each theme respectfully and in a fun manner. Players that enjoy min/maxing as much as roleplaying will fit perfectly. I like to reward players for playing how they like. If you like pop culture references, don't take every aspect of the game hyperseriously and prioritize having fun over taking the correct action every time you'll fit right in.
