About Simon

Hi, I’m Simon, I’m a longtime Dungeon Master who specializes in dark, atmospheric storytelling and emotionally grounded roleplay. I’ve been running games for years both online and in person, and I have a particular love for Curse of Strahd (and gothic horror in general) I favor immersion, realism, and consequence-driven storytelling over power fantasy — your choices matter, and the world will remember them. I use a minimalist, old-school setup (Google Slides for maps and visuals, voice chat for play) to keep the focus on story, tone, and character rather than technical clutter. If you’re looking for a highly produced Roll20 experience, this probably isn’t the table for you. I’m passionate about crafting games that make you feel something, whether that’s fear, sorrow, or triumph. I aim to make Barovia (and beyond) a place that haunts you long after the session ends.

How Simon runs games

I run story-driven gothic horror with a heavy focus on roleplay, atmosphere, and consequence. My games lean closer to psychological horror and tragic storytelling than heroic fantasy. Expect realism in tone, morally gray choices, and a world that reacts to your decisions for better or worse. My tables prioritize Immersion and tone over combat frequency, character development and emotional stakes, consequences that matter, and respectful handling of mature horror themes (violence, tragedy, moral tension, etc.) I value players who want to explore character-driven stories, emotional roleplay, and the darker side of D&D’s world — while still keeping things collaborative, safe, and fun.

My games focus on...

My games focus on gothic horror, emotional storytelling, and morally charged player agency. Narrative-heavy campaigns where relationships, atmosphere, and character choices matter as much as, if not more, than combat.

Rules are...

Rules are in my game are as written by default, but I’m not a tyrant about it. If something is unclear or slows the table down, I’ll make a call and we move on. Fun and flow matter more than stopping to litigate wording mid-session.

When it comes to voices

I do my best, but my accents do not hold steady. one session an NPC might be british and the next they'll be german, but I try my best, and I encourage players to do the same! Practice makes perfect, and there's no shame at a DnD table

Simon's ideal table

My table is narrative-focused, emotionally immersive, and built for players who want to take the story seriously. If you’re here for deep roleplay, meaningful character arcs, atmospheric horror, and morally complex themes, you will thrive. I run horror that feels like horror. My games include gore, emotional intensity, and mature themes. I do not run power-fantasy loot grinds, murderhobo chaos campaigns, or min-maxed DPS showcases. You should want to care about the story and the party, not dominate the spotlight. My tables are inclusive, queer-friendly, and welcoming to neurodivergent players.

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

Vampires, gothic stories, drama, tragic villains, content similar to Vampire Hunter D and Castlevania, Bloodborne, Blasphemous, and Robert Egger's films

I think metagaming...

Metagaming takes players out of the fiction, which is the heart of my table. I expect players to act from their character’s knowledge, trauma, fears, and flaws. If something’s unclear, ask in character, not out of character. I’m here to help you play, not to punish you.

My table is not the place for...

people who are mostly here for combat and comedy. Swords and Laughs are always fun and have a place in dnd, but I prefer a more cinematic approach with heavy roleplay, low combat, and a more serious and somber vibe, most of the time.
