About Ben Silva

Hello! My name is Butch. I have always been a fan of tabletop games and have 2 years of DMing experience under my belt. I have been an active player and dm since high school, and I have great joy in both playing and bringing a world to life by DMing. My experience with tabletop has been a rocky road, but it has smoothed out in recent years, from my early days of starting out and not knowing how to play, and being plagued by groups falling apart or a bundle of bad apples souring the group, to now actively running a long-running campaign that expresses creative freedom and power to my players as they explore my homebrew world and find it a living breathing world which choices are made and the world evolves around it for better or for worse. Overall, I am someone who has a passion for D&D, and as a Dm wishes to give my players the power and make the world they play in feel alive, as each of the 5 sense are tailored to immerse you even further, along with players' backstories never sitting to collect dust. I work to keep a safe and comfy space at my table and like to take feedback at the end of each session to further improve and ensure each session is as good as the first.

My favorite books are

A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin is a fan favorite of mine, as they are big inspiration to me when I am writing my games

My favorite system of all Time is

D&D 5e (2014) is the first system I ever played way back in high school, and it has a special place in my heart; it's what I've always enjoyed playing and what I run now.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing games like Marvel Rivals as of late, watching shows, binge-watching JJK as of right now, or practicing drawing

How Ben Silva runs games

My gaming style is meant to immerse you in the world and its rich history, and your senses are tailored to draw you in even further. I love roleplaying and try to make every NPC feel alive; combat is quick but offers a challenge as I study the party, pick up on habits, and have enemies evolve accordingly. Often, I try to offer major choices that impact the game, both story-wise and in how they change the world; whether it is for better or worse remains to be seen. I try to make the party feel powerful and generally say yes to most 3rd party/homebrew content, so long as it is not too powerful, and try to actively include player backstories, such as your warlock patron demands the heart of your most recent foe? Well, better get to it, or someone is not getting eldritch blast anymore.

My games focus on...

Fun and power to my players, an immersive narration to really make the world feel alive and rich with lore and history to draw you in and explore and learn more about it, with choices affecting the world around as the story evolves around you.

Rules are...

Meant to be cool, I like to follow the rule of cool and FAFO. Maybe you should poke the owlbear in the eye to see if it's asleep; I won't stop you. I'm not one to sacrifice fun for being the rule police

When it comes to voices

I try to do my best when voicing an NPC to make them feel alive and immerse you in the world more. Often, I try to practice voices when planning certain NPCs, such as goblins or other monstrosities

Ben Silva's ideal table

My table offers fun and tries to make everyone feel welcome, with your backstory neatly integrated into the world. If you're someone who enjoys a rich world with deep history and lore, where roleplay is encouraged along with having a hell of a good time, then my table is for you.

I love it when a player

I love when my party takes initiative, engages with the world and the story, has a hard time making deep decisions, that reflects on the choices their character would make, and roleplays and encourages others to do so and get out of their comfort zone

I think metagaming...

Can be good sometimes, but overall, don't try to think there is a Dm when playing the game and just play the game as it is. A good example I'd say is when facing a troll: maybe you know, out of character a troll is weak to fire but your character does not, so try to recall their weakness with a roll

My table is not the place for...

For someone who is min/maxing, or someone who has a habit of being a Rules-Lawyer, at my table we're here to have fun and get lost in a story and RP. If we're just thinking in numbers and waiting for the next dice roll, then maybe you should look for another table
