About Christian Fraser
My name is Christian. I'm a Marine Corps veteran and the creator of Atheron, a 500+ page grimdark campaign setting on the Foundry VTT Marketplace. I've been GMing since 2020 and I built my original world from scratch -- every map, every adventure, every NPC. When you play at my table, you're playing in a world the DM wrote, not one I bought off a shelf. I run all my games on Foundry VTT with hand-drawn maps, dynamic lighting, and an original soundtrack composed specifically for the setting.

I ran my first game...
In 2020 while quarantined in boot camp during COVID. I drew dice faces onto a circle on notebook paper and used a spring and sewing needle as a spinner. I still have my original boot camp campaign map and used it to keep playing throughout the rest of my service.
I started running games because...
I love D&D. The collaborative storytelling, the crazy dice moments, and the friendships you build through a shared love of the medium.
My favorite books are
The Cosmere series by Brandon Sanderson, specifically the Stormlight Archive. It's my favorite fantasy series of all time.
How Christian Fraser runs games
My games feel like a video game brought to tabletop. Every session runs on Foundry VTT with hand-drawn maps, dynamic lighting, fog of war, and fully built scenes -- players have compared it to playing Baldur's Gate at a D&D table. I do voices for every NPC. I run a 60/40 roleplay-to-combat split with most sessions featuring at least one fight. Combat is cinematic -- you won't hear "you miss" at my table. You'll hear "your firebolt streaks toward the orc, who drops flat at the last second as it scorches the wall behind him." When you hit, it feels earned. When you miss, it still looks cool. I prep heavily and run a homebrew world I built from the ground up called Atheron -- a grimdark campaign setting with 484 pages of lore, 13 adventures, and an original soundtrack. Your backstory matters here. I work with every player to weave their character's history into the world so events and encounters feel personal, not random. The best sessions at my table are the ones I didn't plan for. Kill the NPC I thought you'd befriend? Ally with the faction I thought you'd fight? Good. That's D&D. Player agency drives the story and I adapt around your choices. What I won't run: sessions where the party actively avoids all conflict, or campaigns where one player wants to spend three hours building a merchant empire while everyone else watches. This is a collaborative adventure, not a solo business sim.

I deal with rules issues by...
Deferring to as close to rules as written as possible. If a ruling would negatively impact a PC, we deal with it on the spot as quickly and cleanly as possible to avoid affecting anyone unfairly.
I prep by
Reading the past session's notes and coming up with potential plot hooks and ways to further the main story as well as each PC's backstory, while considering what the players might do next.
My games focus on...
A balance of combat and roleplay where player choices shape the story. Combat happens most sessions but the drama between fights is what makes the campaign memorable. Your backstory matters here because I weave it into the world.
Christian Fraser's ideal table
What is your table like: A fully built Foundry VTT experience with hand-drawn maps, dynamic lighting, fog of war, and an original soundtrack. I run Atheron, a grimark campaign setting I wrote and published with over 500 pages of lore. Sessions run about 3-4 hours with combat most sessions and meaningful roleplay in between. What types of players fit well: Players who engage with each other and the world. You don't need to be a voice actor or write an extensive 10 page backstory. I just want players who make decisions as their character, not as a stat sheet. If you're the type who asks an NPC a follow-up question because you're curious, not because you think there's a quest reward, you'll fit in perfectly. What's the general vibe? Serious fun. The setting is dark, death is real, and choices have consequences. But between the tense moments, we're cracking jokes, roasting each other's bad rolls, and hanging out after session talking about what just happened. Think Baldur's Gate meets a Friday night with friends.

I love it when a player
A player engages in roleplay with the other players or pulls a quieter person into the fold. Some of the best moments at my table have come from one player turning to another and asking "what does your character think about this?" That kind of energy is contagious and elevates the whole table.
I think it's a red flag when players...
Players don't help each other out in game when they're supposed to be a cohesive team. If your party member is down and your first thought is "what's in their pockets" instead of "how do I save them," this isn't the table for you.
My table is not the place for...
Players who steal from the party, hoard magic gear, or treat loot like a solo competition. You're a team. Act like one. The dragon doesn't care who's carrying the magic sword, it's going to eat all of you equally.
