About Cherin

I am an avid Dungeon Master and have been for over a decade now. I've solely played Dungeons and Dragons (5e). My favourite campaigns are those where players weave the story and I guide the process. I have often run versions of campaigns such as Curse of Strahd, Tomb of Annihilation and Storm King's Thunder, but am also building my own homebrew world. I both enjoy an evening of pure roleplay and shenanigans but also enjoy devising a combat scenario to really make my players work together and come up with a creative solution to a problem.

I got started GMing...

when my first game as a player stopped I got totally hooked on Dungeons & Dragons. That's when I found out it was easier to be the GM so I started running Curse of Strahd. Little did I know that being the GM gave me more joy, seeing others smile and laugh is what it's all about for me.

My favorite books are

It depends, but I always love going back to Brandon Sanderson series and Lies of Locke Lamora has a special place in my heart as well. I love a good fantasy book that takes you into another world

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Humorous, creative and calm. Most of my games the session prep can go out of the window because my players do some random stuff. That allows me to become creative, come up with situations I know they enjoy and still deliver them a great evening.

How Cherin runs games

I like setting a scene and creating atmosphere. Using music, animated maps or maps with multiple layers so a surprise is always around the corner. Most of the games I have played are probably around 3 to 4 hours. Of these 3 hours around 2 will mostly be roleplay oriented and 1 would be combat of some sort. I am not the best at accents or different voices but I do try with flair, each character being unique and each interaction having something to remember.

My games focus on...

Collaborative storytelling. I think that in the end a session or campaign needs to be something worked on together. I as a GM will give you a canvas with a few brush strokes already there, but together we will finish this painting.

Cherin's ideal table

My table style is often said to be relaxed. I will set up campaigns with music, (animated) battle maps and add layers to have surprised. My ideal player is someone who really wants to get into the story and the world. I enjoy a good combat but my passion lies with roleplaying. I love when a game leaves the beaten path and I need to think on the spot. Will I make mistakes in the rules? Sometimes I will, but if a situation is cool I will let it fly.
