About ADiceySituation

I am a forever GM and amateur writer with about 7-8 years of experience playing and running TTRPGs, having cut my teeth on D&D 5E. I've played and run some Call of Cthulhu and Traveller, and have a collection of other games I've run short one shots for, or haven't had a chance to play yet. As both a player and GM, I believe in telling a good story. My favorite part of this hobby is seeing the excitement from players who've never played before, as well as watching all my players get to do something cool. That's about it for me! I hope we can enjoy playing together!

When I'm not running games I'm...

Playing video games, watching TV, or writing a variety of stories using the rules of TTRPGs as a base. I'm a real homebody like that.

How ADiceySituation runs games

My first experience went terribly, so I try to make sure all my players are comfortable and having fun. If they're not, they leave. If they leave, game over man! I discuss lines and veils with my players before or during Session 0 for this reason. I enjoy combat as much as roleplay. Rule of Cool and Rules as Written are used in equal measure depending on the situation. If it doesn't break the game, it can probably be done. I have ZERO tolerance for players who are actively terrible people to others IRL. If you're at my table, you deserve to feel safe as a person without worrying about racism, sexism, and general douchebaggery. My games tend toward the slightly easier side during character creation, with PCs who have higher stats than the base rules of a game may normally allow. This ensures players have a higher survivability at the start of the game, at least for a while.

I deal with rules issues by...

Checking for the rule in a short timeframe if possible. If a player can find the rule and let me know, awesome. If we can't confirm the ruling quickly, I just make a decision and come back to it later during a break or after the session, where I will make corrections as needed.

I once ran a session...

of Call of Cthulhu where the player characters were slowly going mad due to the influence of the King in Yellow. One PC started sleep walking and nearly shot a fellow investigator in the face due to a vivid nightmare. My players were so freaked out, we had to take a break.

ADiceySituation's ideal table

I enjoy running different types of games for new players. I love players who are engaged in what's happening even if it doesn't involve them, players who remember they are not the star of the show and the spotlight doesn't have to be on them 24/7. I like my players to know the rules and be invested even outside of the session, those who keep good notes or research features or items they may want to get in the future.
