About Jim

Hi, I'm Jim. From D&D to Pathfinder 1e to LARP and martial arts, I've been playing pretend as long as I can remember. I love gritty combat set in expansive worlds packed with interesting characters (love my lil guys) I have a background in acting, went to Toronto Film School, and since then have done some work on screen. I've done a little college improv and loved it. all this to say I have a love for good words and great Role play. But let's not forget that where there is fluff and flavor, it must be built on crunch. I am an expert in 5e and 2024 Rules of D&D and pass fair in most other systems (Kids on Bikes, Call of Cthulhu) I have successfully run dozens of one-shots, 2 3-year campaigns, and a whole lot besides. TLDR: My name is Jim, I am an experienced DM/GM, and I'd be thrilled to play some games with you.

I got started GMing...

When I was in high school. I had a close-knit group of friends who were all improvisers, and one of us brought up DND and we all jumped on it. Mind you, this was in 2014, and 5e was just about to come out, so we ended up playing Pathfinder and had some hilariously over-the-top stuff happen.

How Jim runs games

I love Dramatic moments in combat. I like to describe and make combat a visceral experience. On the other hand, I love tense dialogue where two people are doing their best to pull the truth from each other while keeping their own secrets firmly to their chests. I love a forbidden romance, A heated rivalry, A revenge story, any of the above plus tragedy and I'm in my element.

Jim's ideal table

Over everything, I love when my players are invested in the story we are telling together. I'm here for the moment the Big Bad hurts the Lovable NPC, and everyone at the table locks in like it's the most serious shit ever.

I love it when a player

Asks good questions, makes me reconsider something, and inspires me to enhance the plot or move it in a direction it may not have gone if not for that player.
