About Jonathan Campbell

I'm 35, I'm a history teacher with two young kids, and I've been playing role playing games since I was 10 years old. I started game mastering when I was 14 with D&D 3.5, and since then I've never stopped. I have game mastered Star Wars RPG, Rifts, Heroes Unlimited, D&D 4e, D&D 5e, and Avatar Legends. I am obsessive when it comes to preparation and player enjoyment. My passion is getting a laugh, gasp, or a buzz of discussion from my players about how to solve a problem in front of them. I'd love to do that for you and your friends!

How Jonathan Campbell runs games

I most enjoy role playing npc's and crafting scenarios that create philosophical dilemmas. I like to make my own maps, with my players if they are interested. I created a system for players to make a world map and the countries that inhabit it. I enjoy combat that goes beyond fighting, where players must interact with a changing environment, or deal with an interesting mechanic to help them succeed. My stories have covered a wide range of topics in the 21 years I've spent DM'ing. I tend to most explore comedy, horror, science fiction elements mixed with fantasy, but I mostly follow my players' lead. I am most proud of a story I did where my players were super heroes in Austin Texas, fighting to keep Austin Weird as Conservative state politicians sought to steal the spirit of Austin so that they could harness it to serve their own greed. I'm currently running a 5e story that is everything anime, characters, plot, tropes, and setting all inspired by dozens of our favorite anime. I've done murder mystery, evil stories, and I'm open to explore more.

I deal with rules issues by...

Finding the fastest solution that the majority of the players feel comfortable with so that the flow of the game can continue.

When it comes to voices

I do a variety of voices for flavor, humor, and horror.

Jonathan Campbell's ideal table

Players fit my table if they are engaged, supportive of other players decisions, and understanding. The main goal is to have fun, to entertain each other, and to tell a story. As long as you help tell the story, I will make sure you get the adventure that you're looking for.

I love it when a player

Makes a decision that is bad for their character, but makes perfect sense for who their character is. You're playing a stupid character with no social skills, then we better see some dumb decisions and social errors.
