About me
I'm The Gentlemancer! But, you can call me Robby. I've been almost exclusively DMing games since 2005, have created numerous homebrew systems and subsystems, and have run a tremendous number of different games. I'm most proficient in Dungeons & Dragons of 3.X and up, and its derivatives such as Star Wars Saga Edition, as well as Shadowdark. I put an emphasis on weaving player stories into a broader narrative, and making sure everyone at my table feels safe, secure, and entertained. The most important part of gaming is that we all have fun!
GM Style
I generally prefer to focus on player storylines intermixed into the broader narrative. However, I also enjoy more "kick in the door, we're here to make coin!" style games. I'm open to feedback, enjoy discussing ideas with my players, and like both long-term and short-term games. My storylines for players involve using their backstory and making certain its ripples hit the shores of the current storyline in some capacity. I tend to think of it like a television show- not every episode will involve the hero's tragic past, but somehow that past maintains relevance in the story arcs of all seasons. I like to throw in twists and curveballs, though any changes I feel are too egregious I always make sure to ask about ahead of time. Different systems call for different measures, and many times I will use D&D 3.5 or Shadowdark for more grim, difficult, or darker settings and styles. I've run many Hexcrawls and West Marches games with these systems. However, these games can just as easily be story-focused as well as based on combat, dungeon delving, and grabbing treasure. For high-octane, action-oriented games, I prefer 4e and 5e. Star Wars Saga Edition is also available, though I haven't run it in years. World building is also an emphasis in my games, and I love working with players to create new bits of lore. You can also expect funny voices, detailed regional maps, and factions with mechanics that are fitting and suitable to their trappings.
