About Gabran Gray

I'm a writer and substitute teacher who's been a longtime tabletop hobbyist. I grew up reading tabletop books and wanting to play, but I didn't find a group until I was an adult. I've gotten to be a player in quite a few games, but I've also become, to my delight, the forever GM for my main group of 6 players. I love crafting intricate worlds with factions and NPCs that are pursuing their own agendas and then throwing my players into the mix and letting them figure their own what out of whatever mess inevitable ensues. I love role-play heavy games that get occasionally broken up by high-stakes fights.

How Gabran Gray runs games

As a storyteller, I like to dig into the connections between characters and focus on high-stakes decision making. I like stories where the characters need to really rely on each other to overcome seemingly impossible odds - whether the struggle is fighting an ancient evil king or taking over the local gang turf. I've ran one shots, multi-session mini campaigns, and several long campaigns that have ran a year plus. I've ran campaigns and adventures from pre-written material, but I prefer to homebrew my own settings and stories. I've also GMed for up to eight players at once, but I prefer games that have 3-5 players generally. In terms of rulings, I tend to favor rule of cool over RAW as long as its not entirely reality- or immersion-breaking. That said, it depends on the game. For narrative focused campaigns, a little bending of the rules sometimes lets players get in a particular cool moment, but in survival sandbox games, the exact opposite seems to be true. I try to be flexible and to respond to what my players say they want in session 0. More than anything, I try to deliver an experience that keeps everyone at the table actively engaged and excited to come back for the next session.
