About WhysteriaDragon

I have been DMing for 6 years. I love the creative and collaborative nature of this game and I love being surprised by players every session. World building is the name of my game, so bring characters that want to be immersed in my original worlds.

I became a GM because

I wanted to play more DnD and no one else would do it. But I still DM because I love the creative challenge of creating a world and improvising to how the world reacts to what my players do.

How WhysteriaDragon runs games

I plan games that focus on RP, but don't worry, we will fight too. I prefer fights that act as puzzles as much as a fight with alternate win conditions and diplomacy. My games are open world, but I will never leave you without a plot hook. We will follow the fun, as they say. Collaboration is key, so I like incorporating your ideas and backstory into the world. We will bring it alive together. I run home brewed games with original worlds, so if you don't see a setting you like, ask! Maybe we can make one together.

I prep by

planning the NPC's goals, next moves, and responses to whatever insanity the players got into last session. As a character focused DM, my goals is my NPCs behave believably in response to your PC, so you can feel immersed in the world.

My games focus on...

themes and characters. I build the campaign and world in service to a theme for characters to explore. Character choices have consequences for the direction of the world and the story. The decision tree is infinite!

WhysteriaDragon's ideal table

I like to make above table jokes at the right moment, but I also want to get deep into the role play. Players that can and want to lock into an imagined moment are my dream. I tend to run less combat oriented games, but I believe in a healthy smattering. On average, I'm currently doing a combat session for every 3 or 4 role play session in the games I'm running, but that will vary, depending on the game and what is happening in-game. I tend to run serialized campaigns instead of episodic, so consistency is encouraged, but I can work around occasional absences.

I think min/maxing...

can be fun, but only if you can roleplay it. No one likes it when one person brags to ruin other people's fun. One thing I do like is useless or highly specific min/maxing. Building a character that is the most fey to ever fey, for example, scratches my sorting itch.

My table is not the place for...

murder-hobos and joke characters. They have their place, but my campaigns are not thematically or tonally appropriate for those kinds of bits. Moments of comedy always has a place at the table, but the genre is not comedy.
