About Jim Grant

I'm someone with a deep love for storytelling, strategy, and immersive experiences, which naturally led me into the world of tabletop games. I’ve been a game master (GM) for various tabletop role-playing games, and I enjoy creating rich, dynamic worlds that give players room to explore, improvise, and shape the story with their choices. My GMing style is flexible and collaborative—I like to tailor the experience to the players, blending strong narrative arcs with character-driven moments. Beyond RPGs, I have a passion for designing and analyzing games, including working on my own strategy game, Overlords, which combines a large-scale map with tactical, chessboard-like battles. I bring that same level of depth and thoughtfulness into the games I run—whether we’re diving into an epic fantasy tale or navigating a tight, rules-light one-shot. My background in teaching and love of games makes me especially good at onboarding new players and helping everyone feel like their ideas matter at the table.

How Jim Grant runs games

In my games, players can expect a strong balance of immersive storytelling, player agency, and strategic decision-making. I love roleplay and creating rich, character-driven narratives, especially ones where personal motivations and moral ambiguity play a big role. Whether you're embodying a flawed hero or navigating complex party dynamics, I’ll give you space to explore and grow your character in meaningful ways. At the same time, I enjoy crafting tactical combat encounters that feel purposeful and intense—fights that aren't just about numbers, but about choices, positioning, and stakes. I draw from my background in game design and strategy to make encounters that are both challenging and satisfying. I tailor each session to my players, blending mystery, conflict, exploration, and the occasional twist. You can expect a thoughtful world that reacts to your actions, moral dilemmas with no easy answers, and a GM who values collaboration, creativity, and your character's voice in the story.
