About Alan Diaz

I've been GMing for about 6 years now and love every second of it. I greatly enjoy crafting little sandboxes for others and just letting them run wild and seeing what antics they come up with. I rely heavily on collaborative world building with the use of "yes and". I've run fantasy settings with Dungeons and Dragons, Cyberpunk settings with Shadowrun and old timey horror settings with Candela Obscura and Call of Cthulu.

I got started GMing...

because I've always been interested in game design. I enjoy making games for people to play and interact with. When I was a kid, I would make card games and have my friends play it out. Seeing my players come up with strange shenanigans or break mechanics of the game was always very exciting for me.

My 3 systems I'd bring to a desert island would be

Dungeons and Dragons, Ten Candles, and Shadowrun

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Chaotic, Creative, and Unhinged

How Alan Diaz runs games

I rely heavily on player energy while playing. I often use silly antics and jokes, and also use more "fun" settings that are not very traditional. I've run games of DnD where all the players are modern day super heroes, or games of cyberpunk where the players discover a cult that have broken a magical barrier to release the ability of spell casting onto a new chaotic world, or horror games where players discover a government conspiracy to extinguish the sun in the basement of a Chuck E. Cheese. Don't expect the ordinary.

I deal with rules issues by...

I make rulings on the fly to keep the game moving. I make a note to look into the rule afterwards to see if it needs correcting in the future. the ruling I make tries to lean in a direction that best serves the story moment.

When it comes to voices

I am by no means a professional voice actor. I tend to differentiate characters with tones, slight accents and context. You'll meet a lot of people with the same gruff tone of voice but those characters will be far enough apart that you don't get them confused.

Alan Diaz's ideal table

My table tends to be somewhat light hearted. Not afraid to tell jokes and have some laughs. The RP is not super serious but are willing to give room to the other players for the big moments to shine.

I think min/maxing...

is fine for some tables. I only disagree with min maxing if it begins to break immersion or combat begins to become a slog if one player is holding the spot light too much. So no players with a skeleton army where each of their 20 skeletons has their own initiative.

My table is not the place for...

erotic role play or romance. All romance scenes are fade to black at my table.
