About Hugo

Hello and welcome! My name is Hugo and I'm a TTRPG "junkie" who's been DMing for over 4 years for friends and strangers alike! Starting with Dungeons and Dragons and later expanding into other systems, I quickly found that one of my life's greatest passions is bringing people into the world of TTRPGs and letting them discover all they can be and do in fantastical worlds full of adventure, intrigue and danger! If you'd be curious about joining my table, here's what you can expect: • Begginer-friendly games - for anyone looking to give this hobby a go with some extra support! • "Theater of the Mind" oriented sessions with visual support, for freedom of action in our collective imagination. • A healthy mix of fun-focused and structured play, for both novice and experienced players. • Immersive roleplay opportunities with room for character exploration. • Equal focus on everyone! Whether you're a charismatic beast or a shy introvert, I will do my best to make sure you get your share of the limelight. • Openess to homebrew! I am a proponent of coloring outside the lines in my worlds, so always feel free to tell me your intentions and we'll surely come up with some cool things together! If any of this leaves you excited to jump in, feel free to take a look at the scheduled games or message me directly if you're interested in getting something else started! Venture forth, and I'll see you at the table!

I became a GM because

... I've always loved both storytelling and gaming, and after getting to share both with other TTRPG lovers, I found it had become my favorite thing to do!

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

... light-hearted, passionate & considerate.

When I'm not running games I'm...

... Working on more games, writing, gaming or playing guitar!

How Hugo runs games

I describe my GM Style as "Story-Focused Narrator & Facilitator" - a fan of the players and their characters who most enjoys setting up interesting, tense or fun circumstances for them to navigate in their unique ways. I tend to prepare the world and the "plot" around the party to be self-sufficient, allowing for freedom of approach but ultimately provide opportunities for the characters to lead and either be the heroes they're meant to or simply live to see another day. I run most of my action/conflict scenes in "Theater of the Mind" (depending on the necessities of each System), using general distancing prompts and generously interpreting rules to work with player intentions while staying inside the reality of the fiction. However, depending on the platform and the needs of a particular encounter, I am prone to creating/finding functional maps, or even drawing a simple layout for better tracking, environmental interaction and party coordination. I believe Role Playing goes beyond dialogue - the character builds, approaches and appearence all play into creating someone to anchor yourself to - and so try to encourage a level of expression that inspires fun and meaningful moments, from the players to the players. Finally, I am a lover of "Role-Playing" social encounters, whilst doing my best to know when to cut a scene for time and pace.

Hugo's ideal table

At my table, I enjoy a "Controlled Chaos" approach, incentivizing players to engage with the world, vibe and narrative while remaining open to any outside-the-box ideas one might come up with, and challenging them to play it out! I run mostly Theater-of-the-Mind (w/ some visual aids) for collective immersion, and encourage every player to find their voice and their solutions for encounters and narrative paths, participating in the active creative process while playing.

Featured Prompts

I am for a vibe that's...

... consistent, respectful and loving. Tone will naturally shift from system to system and narrative to narrative, but the table should be a place for anyone to feel at home and, hopefully, make some new friends!

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

If you're into tight, consistent narrative experiences, where Role-Playing is rewarded and Combat tests both characters and players, I think you'll fit right in here!

I love it when a player

... "finds themselves" at my table! I'm huge on bringing people into TTRPGs, and helping them find out how to have fun and shine around other lovers of the hobby!
