About me
Hey, I'm a British expat living in Thailand and the long-time GM for two groups - one for over a decade and the other for four years at this point. I’ve been a huge fan of fantasy since as far as I can remember, from watching Flight of the Dragons and playing make-believe as a kid, to listening to actual play podcasts and running fantasy RPGs as an adult. TTRPGs have become my primary hobby and after years of my friends telling me to try paid GMing, here I am! D&D 5e Experience – Lost Mines of Phandelver (who hasn’t at this point?), Call From The Deep, Wild Beyond the Witchlight, four fully homebrewed campaigns, and countless shorter adventures and one-shots. Pathfinder 2e Experience - Full 1-20 conversion of the first edition Adventure Path ‘Strange Aeons’, Season of Ghosts, and about twenty shorter adventures and one-shots. Other systems – I have run full campaigns in Mutants and Masterminds 3e, Supers Revised Edition, Starfinder 1e, and Prowlers and Paragons Ultimate Edition. I’ve run a ton of one-shots and short adventures for all of the previously mentioned systems and also Delta Green, Avatar Legends, Kids of Bikes, Sentinels Comics RPG, ICONS, Marvel Heroic, Champion, and probably a bunch more I can’t remember off the top of the dome. Now, I don’t think sheer volume or time spent running games is really a good metric for measuring if a GM is good or not, but at the least it shows I’ve managed to consistently run games for many years and retained the attention of regular players over many different systems and styles! I've been running games week in and week out for the same two groups for years, my players rarely miss sessions, and we've had an ton of fun together. I'm consistent, dedicated to the game and always trying to improve as a GM.
GM Style
Every player and every group is different and as a GM it is paramount that you can be flexible and run things in way that resonates with the group. There are few things worse in a TTRPG than a GM that tries to force a mood/tone and expects the table to work for them rather than with them. I believe it is crucial that a GM pay close attention to what does and doesn't work for the group and works to make the most enjoyable experience possible for that each group. I hold myself to a certain standard with my games, no matter if it is a one-shot or a session in a full campaign. Maps and scene images need to be good resolution and a consistent style, and music needs to fit the scene/encounter. Narrative has to be detailed enough to evoke but concise enough to be engaging, player lore should be respected and built upon, NPCs need to stay believable and consistent. Encounters should be tactical and challenging (when it makes sense) but also enjoyable and immersive. Sessions need to be well planned out but still remain flexible enough to account for contact with the destructive force that is known as ‘player agency’! I've run games in so many different tones and genres that it is difficult to really define my style. However, I can say what I tend to enjoy most in my games. Tense, dangerous combat where things feel visceral and the stakes are high. Deep roleplay encounter where players really delve into what makes their character tick. Moments when a character shares their past with others or shows their past informing their actions. The visualization of moments of awe, pain, elation and dread that characters experience in a world of danger and wonder Everyday interactions between characters and small moments where their personality shines through. Leaning into serious narrative, death feeling tragic, monsters being scary, and choices to resonating through the story. Exploration that feels mysterious, intriguing and dangerous. Those are some of the things that I love about TTRPGs, but definitely not all of them! So, if you’ve read all the way down to here, sorry for writing so much, and thanks for your attention!
