About me
Hi all! I'm Rory. I've been playing D&D for around 10 years and have run long-form campaigns as well as one-shots. I welcome both veterans and those curious to learn at my table. I've come to love all aspects of the game from figuring out the best builds to solving problems in fascinating and creative ways, and of course, investing in characters, lore, and world-building. I wear many hats, from small business owner to video editor and resin crafter, and I'm hoping to add the feather of "Professional GM" to my cap as well. I live in sunny South Africa, so my games will most likely run online, but rest assured, I’m equipped with some exciting tools that will bring something fresh to the table.
GM Style
I am a veteran of D&D 5E, but I’ve started incorporating aspects of the new 2024 edition. What I may lack in voice acting, I make up for with interesting and colorful characters that will stick with you. I strive to balance storytelling with mechanics, ensuring consistency not just for the game but for the world itself because that’s where the magic truly happens. That said, I’m also a firm believer in the Rule of Cool, and I encourage players to come up with wacky and creative ideas and solutions. I run my games in a fantasy world of my own creation, a setting I’ve developed and expanded through previous campaigns. My goal is for players to feel a true sense of freedom able to explore wherever they choose and see their choices and deeds shape the world. Whether you’re delving into dark dungeons to uncover lost history and forgotten treasures or fending off bandits to protect a farm, your actions matter. Different groups of players may even find their stories intertwining, with actions in one campaign influencing another. While I’m not particularly familiar with official modules, I love running shorter-form campaigns within this world. Lastly, I strive to make my table as welcoming as possible and a fun space for all. However, I do enjoy exploring darker and more serious themes where stakes and consequences add depth to the adventure and tomfoolery.

I have been playing DnD with Rory now for something like 15 years. We started under the same GM and we never stopped playing together. More than just his veteran status though, I can whole heartedly vouch for him as a GM. As a forever GM myself I was finally able to hand my regular group over to him to run a few years back and in return got to not only play, but with some of my favorite and most memorable characters I have ever had the joy of inhabiting. As far as his style for GMing, if you are looking to become part of a sprawling bioware RPG style adventure full of stakes, interesting NPCs and a strong emphasis on story and character - you'll be in fine hands. He gives you tonnes of stuff to explore, there's always some random thing to find in a corner somewhere, and he's spent probably literal days building his worlds, so he pretty much knows what's going to happen wherever you are on the map, meaning there's always things to just do and have fun with.

Rory is the second GM I ever played with. He has an incredible knowledge of the game, producing some of the more unique less well known game knowledge at a regular. His games have been incredibly fun encouraging his players to come up with creative solutions and characters, and to make some of the more interesting ideas work he will work tirelessly to adjust the story and even produce custom classes and abilities. One thing that he really exceeds at is creative battles. No 2 battles have ever been the same, and they almost always have an alternative way of solving the fight if you think about it hard enough. They truly are heart pounding exciting experiences and I can never wait to see what he next comes up with.
