About Gwen

Hi! I'm Gwen, a DM of over 4 years. I love creating games built around my players and crafting a story they can be as fully immersed in as possible. I love character work especially, helping players form bonds with each other and NPCs is one of my favorite things to do, period. As a trans woman, inclusivity and comfortability are really important to me, and I definitely work towards creating an environment where all my players can be comfortable. I've been DMing since I was 14, and I know how to run a game pretty well at this point, especially 5e. I really want to branch out into other systems, but I haven't played them nearly enough, and need to work on learning them.

How Gwen runs games

I'm a big fan of roleplay, it's the cornerstone of these games to me. creating an environment for my players where they feel free to let loose and explore their characters with each other and my NPCs is incredibly rewarding for me. I'm a bit looser on combat, but I do have fun creating challenging and rewarding encounters for players. I strive to make narratively engaging fights that keep my players on their toes. As for puzzles, I quite like them, but my use of them depends on the setting I'm running in. I tend to run a lot of modified modules, as it both helps me flex my creative muscles and helps mediate burnout on my part. For instance, I did a heavily modified Tyranny of Dragons for some friends a few years ago. I added new characters, added on to the ones that were there, and made the main villain a corrupted gold dragon courting the affection of the dragon queen. It's not always an incredibly dramatic change, but when I do run a module, I very much make it my own.
