About John Barbour

I started playing DnD 5th edition during my first year of university my British group decided to take it in turns dming so everyone got a chance, and I slowly developed my skills as a dm over the 6 years we have been a group. Along with my (at the time) local DnD group I also started playing with some of my American friends I met online during lockdown. I ran a sci-fi dnd game for three years the characters reaching lv 17 at the end of it. After this campaign my American group experimented with different TTRPGs which allowed me to run call of Cthulhu for the first time along with other games that we were able to play when we met up on holiday such as Dread. After each game I have played regardless of whether I was game master or not I made sure to add lessons I had learned from each game to a word document so I will always grow stronger. Most recently I have started my own DnD podcast Chainsaw Man DnD: Devil world, this has shown me that it is time for me to put the skills I have learned from my groups around the world to good use by professionally dming. Thank you very much for taking the time to read this.

How John Barbour runs games

In my games you can expect a strong level of roleplay, very earthly characters to interact with. I still make sure to have combat and I pride myself in having very creative boss fights. My games are very much homebrew I always look and what more I can add to my games to make the journey even more tense and rewarding. I also like to ask players what they think their homebrew abilities should entail such as ultimates it’s my belief that every player should be allowed to work towards both an ultimate attack/feature and a powerful item that will make them feel unique and strong. I very much think roleplay should strengthen a character as much as combat.
