About Jennifer

I'm a freelance journalist and a longtime, moderately experienced D&D player, now dipping my toes into the PbP DMing pool. I've enjoyed freeform roleplay in chatrooms and forums for years—stretching back to the early days of the internet—and I've always had a fondness for fantasy settings. Plotting, narrative, and note-taking are my forte, but I enjoy crunching numbers too—even if I'm terrible at math.

I became a GM because

I became a GM because I love storytelling and worldbuilding—and I wanted to create spaces where characters could grow, clash, and surprise me. There’s nothing better than watching players bring a world to life in ways I never expected.

My favorite shows/movies are

I don’t watch much TV, but I like Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, and Criminal Minds. For movies: Logan, Pride & Prejudice (1995), Guardians of the Galaxy, Spirited Away, Jurassic Park, The Matrix, Prince of Egypt.

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Laid-back, funny, creative. I run a relaxed table where storytelling comes first. I believe characters are the lifeblood of every story—the heart that makes the world feel real—and the mechanics of D&D are just the scaffolding that lets those moments land.

How Jennifer runs games

Expect a strong focus on character-driven storytelling, rich worldbuilding, and morally gray choices. There will be plenty of decisions and consequences—that's what makes the drama! I'm always open to feedback and suggestions, and I actively seek input to make the experience the best it can be for everyone.

I deal with rules issues by making quick, fair calls to keep the game moving. I’m not a stickler, but I try my best to be consistent. If something comes up mid-session, I’ll resolve it in the moment and check the official ruling later if it really matters.

I prep by

I prep by mapping out key NPCs, locations, and plot threads, but I leave room for improvisation. I work with players to tie their characters into the world—if they’re inclined to reach out (I don’t bite!). I also set up a lot of Discord channels with clear directions to keep things organized.

Rules are...

Rules are a framework, not a cage. They’re there to support the story, not stifle it. I use them when they add tension, clarity, or fun; I bend or drop them when they get in the way. The goal is always the same: keep the game flowing and the table engaged.

Jennifer's ideal table

My table is laid-back, story-first, and character-driven. We balance drama, humor, and chaos. Rules knowledge isn’t required—just bring creativity, respect, and a love for collaborative storytelling. If you enjoy roleplay and surprises, you’ll fit right in.

I love it when a player

I love it when a player leans into their character—even if it means making the “wrong” choice. People are messy, and so are characters. Some of the best story and growth comes from failure, flaws, and tough decisions. Just play true and the story will follow.

I think it's a red flag when players...

I think it’s a red flag when players act like it’s a single-player game. TTRPGs are collaborative by nature—everyone shares the spotlight. If someone constantly sidelines others, ignores group dynamics, or plays only for themselves, it hurts the story and the table.

My table is not the place for...

My table is not the place for spotlight hogging, rules lawyering, or disrespect. Everyone deserves space to play, grow, and be heard. If you’re not here to collaborate, listen, and have fun as part of a group, this probably isn’t the table for you.
