About PJ

Hi, I'm ClassiNess, aka Classi, Ness, or PJ. I'm a self taught DM who's been playing TTRPGs since 2014 and worldbuilding for even longer. I'm most familiar with DnD 5e/5.5e, but I've also played Anime Campaign and GURPS. Other than TTRPGs, my hobbies include writing, video games, and streaming. I am happy to accommodate and provide a safe space for other LGBTQ+ members. I have an ongoing worldbuilding setting for my campaigns and writing called Tales From Illudia, featuring a setting that is a gradient from high fantasy to soft sci-fi, and many iterations in between. My writing follows an anthology story style, taking shorter form stories of various characters and settings within the world. r/TalesFromIlludia

I ran my first game...

In my senior year of high school 2014. I spent all summer learning how to play DnD and DM’d for my friends. I even got an after school club going, and I've been a forever GM (by choice) ever since!

The three words my players would use to describe me are...

Creative, patient, and inclusive. Players tell me all the time that they love the depth and breadth of my homebrew setting, and how well their character’s stories are integrated and told, giving each PC time in the spotlight. I also am told how easily new players are able to learn at my table!

When I'm not running games I'm...

Writing, playing video games, streaming. My main writing project is the same setting as my homebrew world- I've been working on Illudia for almost as long as I've been playing DnD!

How PJ runs games

My GM style has a focus on roleplay and exploration over combat with an emphasis on fantasy politics; frequent combat can be added at player desire, dungeon crawls are also on the table. My typical settings are serious with a capacity for humor (player or scenario driven). I am more than happy to teach new players in-session and provide extra “tutoring” as we go along. I can also walk players through every step of the character creation process during session zero if preferred. Players of all skill levels are welcome! I prefer when players get attached to their characters! I very much enjoy weaving backstories into the campaign, adding personal touches and custom additions for each player. Death is not the end, either; there are many ways a character may be able to return. Regardless, if someone wants to continue playing a character, I am happy to work with the player to find something preferable. If someone isn't having fun for any reason, I will do my absolute best to work with them. I want to accommodate each player as much as possible, and make it a fun and comfortable experience for everyone.

My favorite trope is...

Time Loops. Groundhog Day, Majora’s Mask, Edge of Tomorrow. I love media that follows a character’s struggle against the loop, the pits and heights of their emotions as they figure it out. My absolute favorite homebrew campaign in my setting is a full time loop arc!

My games focus on...

Roleplay and political intrigue, as well as mystery in both sleuthing things out and discovering the secrets of the world. Combat is less random encounters and more poignant fights with important foes.

Rules are...

Meant to be bent, but not broken. I'll rules lawyer where I can but, I know when to make concessions for the sake of the story or to let a player character shine. I love when players collude and make a complicated plan, and I love even more to see them succeed!

PJ's ideal table

Picture this: You just arrived to the city, where you find that your character's brother, an elven ambassador, was assassinated the night before you arrived. As you are discussing with the table how to begin the investigation, someone jokes that the shady guy hanging around near the murder scene is named S. Pishous, everyone laughs. Someone finds some evidence that could tie a local organized crime group to the murder, but rolls somewhat low on their investigation check and notices the feathers on the ground nearby. They remember that their character’s theater guild used similar feathers in their costume. “Interesting, hmm…” I say, taking down some notes, and casually mention that they also remember there was a performance happening nearby today. Instead of approaching the public performance and perhaps interrogating some of the troupe, the party chooses to impersonate the actors and put on the show themselves. Somehow, this works flawlessly and they're showered in treasure, and a hint on their next lead in the case. If that kind of game sounds fun to you, you should fit right in!

If you're into ___, you're going to love my table

If you like The Legend of Zelda, the Elder Scrolls, and World of Warcraft, you'll love my homebrew world! My main inspirations for the setting are Tears of the Kingdom and Majora’s Mask in particular, with a heavy dose of Monster Hunter and Final Fantasy.

I love it when a player

Engages with the world through their character. My setting has a lot of intricacies with culture and opportunities to express individual characterizations, and I love seeing players immersed in their choices and the mystery!

I think min/maxing...

Is great! I love players pushing the game to its limits within RAW. However, if you bring a powerful character to the table, I'm going to make it a challenge for you- let's see what your build can do!
