About Chaos Goblin DM

I have been playing TTRPG games since middle school in the early 90s. I have always loved the interactive storytelling and the insane adventures that can be had. I started DMing because I wanted to play and my group had no DM. Classic story. I then found out I enjoyed creating a story structure and then improvising as the players interacted with what I had set up. I have had a private game going with the same people for 2 years this time and before that we had a campaign lasting 3 years. I also randomly do one shots and small campaigns for other groups including my 8 god kids. Over that time I have collected a lot of assets and skills and I figure I should share them outside my friend group. One of my favorite parts about DMing is seeing a player have that epic moment with their character where they do the crazy thing and talk about it for years to come. From the time a player overfed rations to a squirrel when bribing it along with speak with animals prompting me to shove a whole snickers bar in my mouth and almost choke while responding in a squeaky voice to the epic takedown of the Tarrasque from the inside to the bitter loss of Hobbs the Bard, greatest musician the Fae Realm has ever known at the hands of BBEG "Sparky Boy" and its spurring the group on, these moments are all still talked about to this day by my players and I hope to create many more. My style of play is more beer and pretzels and laid back. I generally try to accommodate players and their requests and weave a part of the player into the game. I am experienced at bringing new people into the game of all ages from my 7yo goddaughter up to elderly people when I ran a (rather simplified) game at a nursing home. If you are looking for a fun and casual game I am the DM you are looking for.

The Dragonlance series are my favorite books. Other series I enjoy include the Elric Saga by Michael Moorcock and Hammers Slammers by David Drake.

When I'm not running games I'm...

Besides D and D I have many other interests, most of them nerdy. Some of my hobbies include blacksmithing, medieval sword fighting (HEMA), repairing and collecting arcade machines and most anything you can find to do at your friendly local gaming store.

How Chaos Goblin DM runs games

My style is fun and casual. I enjoy running games that make memories and challenge players to think outside the box. I build the framework for epic events and walk the players through them giving them the chance to do cool things. I try to do a mix of different things from combat to roleplay to intrigue to make sure that the game always stays fun and fresh.

I deal with rules issues by...

I deal with rules issues by making a logical and educated on the spot judgment as to the rule, and then at the end of session going back and looking it up for future reference.

My favorite trope is...

My favorite trope is whatever trope the will make the players game better. Tropes are tropes for a reason and I keep a nice and varied set of them on hand to pull out especially to give a more light hearted moment. Personally I like the one where the small unlikely person is the most powerful.

My games focus on...

I focus on fun and those crazy epic moments that are told about the through the years at table after table as well as what each of the players wants out of their character's journey.

Chaos Goblin DM's ideal table

I generally run a more relaxed, chill "beer and pretzels" style table. My tables tend to be focused all around the fun and the exciting in adventure and interplay between the characters, players, and NBCs and such. The vibe is slightly chaotic, with a focus on fun and whatever's interesting or on the table in the moment. I think most people would find my tables fun. However, the ones that would not would probably be rules lawyers or people who dislike any form of chaos.

I love it when a player

has an idea and wants to implement it into my games. Many times I've had players come to me with things that they're like, you know, I'd love to do this crazy thing, but I don't know how to do it. And I get a lot of satisfaction out of assisting someone in doing those builds or objectives.

I think min/maxing...

Min/Maxing is perfectly acceptable if a DM knows how to deal with it. Granted in a party that only one person is doing so it may cause issues but thats where the DM needs to gauge how things will work and adapt.
