About Cattleya
Hello! I'm a Venezuelan aspiring author who loves fantasy, gothic horror, and mysteries. I'm a big fan of everything that has to do with magic; I love injecting a blend of mysticism and mythology that intersects with the horror of the unknown into my stories. I'm also a big fan of history, and I like to explore how civilisations change over generations. But most importantly, I believe in the good of others, and everything I write is ultimately a tale of hope I like epic stories with a personal touch, a happy ending, and a good challenge. I'm also flexible and I believe that in the end, DnD is a game, and we all have fun differently. Whether that is with a heist, a large scale battle, or political intrigue -- I'm all for it! I also really like homebrew tailored for my tables. As things go I start to create unique systems that I think the party will enjoy to create an unique experience each time

I got started GMing...
When my table decided to walk away from a toxic DM. We still wanted to play together, so we started to DM for one another in a rotating one-shot situation. When it was my turn, I realised just how exciting the planning process was, and how much fun I had with it! I became a forever DM since then
My favorite books are
In no particular order, - The Adventures of Amina al-Sirafi (S. A. Chakraborty) - Dragún (Ricardo Riera) - The House of the Spirits (Isabel Allende) - The Last Wish (Andrzej Sapkowski)
My favorite shows/movies are
In no particular order, - Deep Space 9 - Card Captor Sakura - Avatar: The Last Airbender - Barry (2018) - The Green Knight (2021) - Love Death + Robots - Macbeth (2021) - Black Sails (2014)
How Cattleya runs games
My games tend to be more narratively focused than anything else. Character stories, drama, political alliances -- all of those take the front seat in my tables. Players who like to involve their characters with the world and the narrative will find themselves at home there Of course tabletop games are nothing without combat, so I like to offer challenging and honestly mostly homebrewed encounters with unique tactics. Nothing extravagant, just pulling a little from different sources to spice up an encounter. Goblins could be carrying nets, for example, or have lots of animal companions. Maybe the evil wizard has hired help: an enemy party of adventurers! There's also a lot of mysteries to unconver and little NPC storylines developing in the background, so if you like getting to know the world and chatting up every NPC, I'm always down for it. If you pay attention to the NPCs, also, you will discover new things about them that aren't explicitly said. Two townies are always seen together? Perhaps they have a little tryst going on. One character hangs out near the magic shop a little too often? Maybe they're involved in something occult. A family man seems to frequent a bath house? Trouble in paradise looms over the couple. And none of those things are random, so be on the lookout!

I deal with rules issues by judging them on a case-by-case basis. Rules are the framework we use to tell our stories, not the main point of the game, so I'm okay with bending them where necessary. Fun comes first. But we need limits, too, and I won't bend everything every single time
I once ran a session...
I once ran a session where we did a murder mystery on a throaway little town. The emotional stakes, the town's mysteries, and the way it affected the story long term became one of my favourite parts of the whole campaign. I still use those characters in that setting!

My games focus on roleplaying, storytelling, and mysteries. You want to chat up NPCs for hours? I'm your man!
Cattleya's ideal table
My table is set to immerse you as a player as much as possible. I play music, ambient sounds, and I spend hours working on the maps to make them as interactive, reactive, and dyanmic as possible. Every NPC has a story, everyone you meet can be an ally. It's up to you to see it all! Players who want to get lost in a fantasy world and explore its corners will feel at home in my table. Become part of the setting and leave your mark on the world -- you might just see your impact in a later game! I play with ever-evolving worlds. You're the makers of history, the force of change -- together we'll tale exciting tales

I am for a vibe that's friendly and easygoing, where we can let loose with roleplay and get immersed in the characters. We're here to have fun in a fantasy world and have adventures. Don't be shy, let it out!
I love it when a player
I love it when a player gets emotionally invested in their character and their story. I love to involve them in the world, to see them change, to craft a tale together!

My table is not the place for hyper-optimised character sheets. I think it's more fun to have a non-optimal character that you love, than a cookie-cutter combat machine with optimal damage. We're telling a story together, and heroes are seldom perfect!
