About Carpe DM

Hi! I'm Jack, and I'm a passionate and experienced Game Master that loves to tell compelling stories and foster roleplay. I specialize in Pathfinder Second Edition and Fate Core, but I'm also comfortable running a variety of other systems. I try to encourage collaborative storytelling and player immersion, and I love playing with both experienced and new TTRPG players and try to make sure everyone has a role in the story. I especially love gothic, horror, mystery and morally complex themes - but I'm just as comfortable running a solid heroic fantasy. I use Discord and FoundryVTT for online play, but also run play-by-post games via Discord, using my custom self-build Discord bot to facilitate tracking and rolls. I'm down for one-shot, short arcs or long-term campaigns.

How Carpe DM runs games

I'm a story-first type of GM, but I also love deep roleplay, worldbuilding and moral complexity. You should expect compelling NPCs, good lore and a strong narrative baseline with room for every PC to shine. I really love to give everyone character their moments in the spotlight and weaving their backstories into the master plot. I do enjoy tactical combat, especially when it's cinematic and meaningful, but I prefer to keep things moving to maintain the pace. My ideal players would love dark, mysterious settings, long-form storytelling and exploring the tension between heroism and horror.
